Thus spake Ceowulf <noneed@toknow.askifyoudo>, Sat, 11 Jul 2009 02:22:52 +0800, Anno Domini: >> How many honest gankers that always tell the truth do you know? <BFG> > >Oh bollocks, I was a gentleman, hell in UO I was for the vast majority >an anti-pk. No, really. ;) >> Oh yes, probably the strongest ever since Moria came out & since about 6 >> mths after launch. I re-installed it a few days ago after I >gave up on Warhammer Online (WAR). WH was never my cuppa. I don't like parodies in general & that's how I saw the WH & WH40K universe from it's tabletop origins day 1. :-/ >I logged onto my level 28 Guardian and started running around >(Elemdier?) and you know what? I had a blast! People my level >everywhere, hell I even got invited into a fellowship after about an >hour to do parts of the chapter 2 instances. I was blown away. > >Confused as all hell, I had no idea what a lot of things where again but >everyone in the fellowship was great and helped a lot. > >But anyway I started up a new Champion (Ceolee, as some bastard has >Ceowulf AND Ceo *grrr*) on the same server and after a few days casual >play am now level 17. I'm LOVING IT. Wont be putting it down for a >while. I'm really not sure what's changed since it came out, levelling >doesn't seem as painful anymore and the storys and quests are so well >done, on par with WoW's (yes I think Blizzard have good writers, don't >laugh :p) and far FAR beyond War's. I've had the same 're-enlightenment experience with LOTRO after length absences :). The diff between WoW & LOTRO (apart from the obvious sub numbers, mechanics & graphics) really IS in the writing for me. Where LOTRO has *lore* in spades & history & context, what does WoW have? Obscure references back to an ancient RTS which most of the players don't even know about lol! I couldn't even find the main storyline in WoW & I've played a Warlock up to 54th lvl & 2 or 3 alts to mid 20s. The side quests are just generic fetch/go there/kill x/y ones, not really too much unlike LOTRO to be honest, but somehow it manages to make a lot of its side quests more relevant or get you more involved. I guess WoW's cutesy apathy to its own origins just grates too much after a while for me. Whereas I read _all_ quest text in lotro, I ignored most of it in WoW by 10th level (for side quests). >> Speaking of GFC, just d/led & watched most of the Zeitgeist Addendum doco. A >> must see for anyone in the least bit interested in the world money markets, >> economics & foreign trade. Real eye-opener. > >Cheers I'll add it to my list of things to nab ones my quota resets :p Hope u enjoy it matey. Don't blame me if clinical depression sets in for a few days though. <EG> -- Nostromo
