--- Well for one thing, if you don't repay your debts, your
reputation will be lower than dogsh*t, which might make it
harder to get people to help you out with directions, etc.

--- Levels really do have limited meaning in this game. I believe
they were left in primarily to help determine when the character is
approximately ready for certain parts of the 'main quest'...for example,
you won't even get OFFERED part one of the quest until you are level 3, and
believe me, the dungeon you get sent to is, shall we say, a 'challenge' even
then...at a lower level, you'd be cat food in there... Also, at higher
levels, you start finding neater 'stuff' on bodies and in shops...better
weapons and armour, and more money on bodies.

--- Can't comment on that except to say, trust me, you'll be glad of
all the help you can get when you meet your first lich. <grin>

--- Archery is, IMHO, of somewhat limited use in this game. It takes a
bit of time to equip a bow, and the monster is hitting you while you do it.
I personally found a bow to be too slow a weapon to use effectively, and I
switched over to a sword.
