In article <39u0dp$k...@vixen.cso.uiuc.edu>, j-h...@ux4.cso.uiuc.edu (James Hogan) says: > >Your chacter is a jerk who deals in slaves and drugs and cares only about >himself. The people you deal with are dull and one-dimensional, and not >once do you deal with them outside of business -- there's no personal >interaction as there was with the WC series. You don't get to know >any of them as individuals. Your character never has to deal with the >pain of losing a friend. > >This is what draws people into the WC plot -- the fact that they get to >know and even care about their wingmen, and are concerned when they're >being pummeled by Kilrathi, or are angry when they get killed. What's >the big deal about an alien drone threatening to take over the Gamma >sector if you (the player) don't give a crap about the people or places >inhabiting it? > > *--------------------------*----------------------------------------------* > | James P. Hogan | "It's hard to imagine the sound of a hacksaw | > | j-h...@ux4.cso.uiuc.edu | cutting through a man's skull..." | > *--------------------------*----------------------------------------------* > I'm not sure about any one else, not that it matters much anyway, but one of the main reasons I did like Privateer was that the lead character was not the typical holier than thou hero. He was strickly in it for the money and if ethics got in the way of making money, he went around them. The great thrill of Privateer is that you stil hang around the WC universe, but you do just about what you want to do. Hell, I still play it just to take out Kilrathies (sp?) and Confed all alike. The one thing that I do miss about the game is having other people there with you that you can talk and fight with/against, but hey eventually Privateer 2 is gonna come out, and for me in particular, that excites me a whole lot more than playing WC 3. My $.03 in. (hehe, gotta paid!)
