Didn't they? Then could someone please explain why they are under the label of Electronic Arts? I really don't buy this "we will use their distribution arm" excuse. Some other company did that previously - could have been U.S.Gold, but I am not sure. So far as I can tell, there is NO U.S. Gold company around today. > And >frankly, a CD-ROM drive is a heck of a lot cheaper these days than a new CPU >or motherboard... True. But then again you need a new cpu/motherboard to play nearly ALL new games. Do you need that with a CD-ROM game? I guess my only beef with uying a CD-ROM would be paying all those $$ for CD_ROM games when they only take up less than half the CD space. Talk about waste of space... if only the writable CD's would come out soon so we can use that extra space to store stuff instead of 10 billion floppies. And besides all that, what would be the point of buying a CD-ROM which ou would only have very few games for? So far I have yet to see a SINGLE CD game which necessitates the value for buying a CD-ROM. WC3 might change that, but I am willing to bet NOT. Based on the last WC-related games Origin has released (WC Academy, Privateer, WC Armada) it logically seems worth a bet that WC3 will be yet another dud in the footsteps of Pacific Strike and U8. Except for System Shock which is done "ex-house" by Looking Glass is there ANY game Origin has made recently which is NOT crap according to most people's opinion? Sorry I sound so negative. I guess it is the frustration at seeing such a great software house having gone down the drain. Plus the fact that we constantly are asked to buy newer faster machines to enjoy potential great gaming experiences, with no regard to our pockets. I am sure tighter, more efficient code CAN be written: look what they did with the Strike Commander CD, or what has been able to be accomplished on LESSER-able machines (Origin wrote one of the best ever C64 games - Space Rogue - which is fast enough on a 1MHz machine with filled, gorgeous graphics... the epitome of C64 programming at the end of its career). Now after THAT, you can't expect me to believe that they cannot do something similar on a powerful PC. Sloppiness makes me angry. >So off-hand I'd suspect Origin doesn't have too much to worry about, on that >note... >----------------------- >William Barnes SURAnet Operations >wba...@sura.net (301) 982-4600 voice (301) 982-4605 fax >Disclaimer: I don't speak for SURAnet and they don't speak for me.
