Altara reveals that the imp is in your world, ie. Britannia. He's a bit tough to find. He's below the castle, as she indicated, which only leaves three levels where he could be. Have you thoroughly explored those levels? You might want to do so - there's lots of useful things there. Nevertheless... (spoiler follows) . . . . . . . . . . . Look on the southeast corner of the fourth level. You'll have to jump into the water. The current carries you to a little path, and at the top you'll find an opening marked with lava.
