First, a general appology.. I didn't mean for my last article to come
across as condescending, which some people seem to have taken it as.
My opening "Nope you're all wrong" was more the tongue and cheek "well,
in my day, we had to..." type thing. I probably should have put a
smiley there. Sorry :-)

Also, one of the replies specified how my comments fall short of
addressing the issue of floppies vs. CD's, and waste of CD space,
etc. I was speaking more of the general direction Origin decided
to take by aiming for the high end system instead of keeping an older
system as their reference/development model. I realize this thread
is specifically about their CD only policy... I was just pointing out
that it's part of a larger focus that Origin has had for a while,
and pointing out where that focus came from.

I still largely agree with that focus, but that doesn't mean I'm
ignoring the criticisms of how Origin impliments it.

Actually, I have one Dos partition, and one Nextstep partition.
I don't think I'll ever have a Chicago partition, unless the games
make it necessary :-) Nextstep is pretty much what is causing me
to seek a system upgrade. I haven't seen any games on my system
that make my Dx33 seem like it needs to be upgraded. Considering
most action games (the ones where speed is relevant) are mostly
graphics intensive (or sound,etc.. where it's the bus speed that's
the bottle neck), a Dx33 and a Dx2/66 aren't going to have a great
performance difference. Flight simulators are probably an exception
here, if they're actually computing your flight characteristics as
opposed to just fudging them for game quality (as opposed to actual
simulator quality). But, in general, I haven't seen any games that
looked better/faster/more playable on a dx2/66 than a dx/33.

Least, that's been my experience :-)
