Well met Salem, The Codex of Ultimate Wisdom caught salem writing: : How could you compare UW with Wolf3d? If all you see when you look at UW : is a 1st pov game, you're missing the point... agreed. UW is a much more realistic game than Wolf3D, which was just mindless arcade nonsense, one that gives thee a bout of nausea :} But I do enjoy playing such rubbish once in a while... although I had to limit myself to 1 level or 1 hour of Wolf3D per day, whichever was the shorter, or said nausea would set in :-} I could play UW for hours on end without getting bored.. But what was innovative about both engines was the 360 degree pov, which was never before done - previous 1st POV RPGs like Dungeon Master, the AD&D Legends series, Wizardry, and Might & Magic only had 90 degree scrolling. I don't recall ever seeing an arcade game with such a view. Origin beat Id to releasing such an perspective, and then some :) : >: Which is older? UW1 or Wolf-3d? If the answer is the latter, then : >: that is where the crown of the 1st VR-type game should go to. I am not talking : >UW was released first... but Wolf3D came out close behind, so both : >companies could have been developing the concept independently.... -- ************************************************************************ * Sir Launcelot du Lake Internet: swk...@leonis.nus.sg __ * * Avatar & Knight of Britannia Bitnet: swkgohw@nusvm.bitnet / \ * ********************************************************** | () | * * "Dost thou hate the evil tyrant Blackthorn?" * |\_\ /_/| * * "Aye!" * | _ _ | * * "Dost thou knowest him?" * |/ | | \| * * "Nay..." * | | * * "Then how dost thou judge him?"
