I thought it would be good to mention that 4x drives 220 ms access times 160ms seek are available for about $450. The next step should be at lest to 8x maybe even 15-20x. The problem as I see it is going to be access times not speed. Light moves very fast (about 3x10^8 m/s, last i checked) so high data transfer speeds should be easy to get, but the lenses, receptors and lasers that have to move to read the disk are much heavier than the heads needed to read a magnetic medium. There may be a work around for this but I haven't seen one yet. PDeMaio Is that a light at the end of the tunnel or just an oncoming train?
