Instead of continuing to flame Mr. Shannon from New World Games, how about coming up with some helpful suggestions for him? Also, how about some suggestions on finding ways for these companies to announce their games and how to order them without being flamed forever for advertising. This information would be nice to have over the net, especially since the stores don't always find out about some games for months after they're released. One idea would be for some of the companies to get together and set up an FTP site. On the site they can put all their ads, game information, patches, updates, etc. Then maybe once a month or so, they can post an article informing readers of appropiate newsgroups of the existence of the site and how to access it. The site would not favor any one company, but allow all companies that help support it to put any information they want into their directory. This way, other people on the net can ftp to their site and look through the information to find out about new games, prices, and how to order. Maybe even have customer service available there too. If anyone else has any ideas, please post them, as I would like to hear them. And, I would like to see some of the game companies set up something like this, to make it easier for us to find out about their stuff. Well, how about having such announcements posted to... you guessed it... comp.games.ibm.pc.games.ANNOUNCE!!! Rather than just maintaining a bbs, an ftp site would provide access to scads of users without requiring a million phone lines. -- -- Mark-- Disclaimer: I can tell you one thing matey boy, it's not going to be me!

Sounds like a real good idea.It should cut costs extremely for users with net-access and makes access to the company-BBS's a little bit easier 'coz not so many users are logging into them. For the companies it should be easier to find out which style of game the users favoured 'coz of the numbers of downloads for all the files. I could be interesting for us users too,to see how many times one file or the other was downloaded ,say,in a month or so. But i doubt the companies will stick together for an ftp-site... +------------------------+--------------------------------------+ | Matthias Rauhut | TCP/IP-Mail: rau...@freia.sax.de | | | IRC:st-guru | | | | +------------------------+--------------------------------------+ | My profession? .GIF-hunter as a full-time-job,what else? | | 'Only a dead GIF is a good GIF!' | | God bless True Color! | `---------------------------------------------------------------' P.S.:How about a 'Upload of the Month'? It could means both:1st - this game is REALLY buggy 2nd - this game is what we user want to play
