I'd love to save money by cutting out the middleman, but factory-direct ordering always seems to cost much more (almost twice as much in this case). This seems to be true of all companies, not just New World. Anyone know why? Are they afraid of offending their retailers if they offer competative prices? Dave

You also get a nifty t-shirt for orders over $50. Darkside of Xeen just shipped last week and you could order direct from us and get it weeks before your nearest dealer or mail order company. :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: :: Steve Shannon :: New World Computing, Inc. :: sha...@inter.com :: :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: :: AOL-Intercomm :: AppleLink-D1933 :: CIS-71154,430 :: GEnie-Intercomm :: :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: :: A journey of a thousand miles begins with a cash advance :: ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

I hope New World Computing fires this marketing guy, because using the net for commerical advertisement is a serious violation. Beside, why anyone would pay full MSRP for old games (e.g Xeen at 69.95) is beyond me. -- Nai-Chi

What about the ethics of not selling as a business on the net? Actually, I don't mind all those guys selling hard drives cheaper than I can find anywhere in town. But really, your price is the highest anyone out of their right mind would pay for the game. You know, if there was a special "net" price, I don't think anyone would mind your unethical practice. I will probably end up getting the game but not if I have to pay the ridiculous price of $70 for it. Alan

Take 10% off, do the math...It's like $62.00 FYI, this information was posted to help overseas callers who have great difficulties obtaining games made in the US. I'm not saying that they cannot find them overseas BUT they sometimes have to pay up to $200.00 for a game that retails for $69.00 here in the states. For whoever cares, I'm not a marketing person. Furthermore, we got this internet account because of the high customer demand that we have a presence on the gaming news groups. Ask yourself this question: Do you want big game companies on the net? It's been nothing more than hostile since I logged on this week. Do you people have nothing better to do than to flame me for a newbie mistake or is it the only way you can self masturbate yourself, by publicly or privately bashing me when you're right and I'm wrong? Thanks for the wonderful welcome to the world-wide internet...Really. :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: :: Steve Shannon :: New World Computing, Inc. :: sha...@inter.com :: :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: :: AOL-Intercomm :: AppleLink-D1933 :: CIS-71154,430 :: GEnie-Intercomm :: :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: :: I didn't know it was impossible when I did it :: ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

(of course it isn't quite released yet, but that's an entirely different subject.... :) ). as for newbie mistakes, that's why there is a faq. read it. watch for a while. jumping in as a newbie is a common usenet mistake. it's also no defense. usenet can be a cold place. all we get to see are your words. no facial expression, no intonation, no other clues. smilies and other usenet phrases have been invented to help alleviate this. but what you get judged on is words. and everyone interprets them differently. also, since people's responses are directed at a glass screen, they can generally be more caustic than those delivered in person. one needs a thick skin on this medium. on any given day your post might be read by several hundred thousand people. you can say something as simple as 'hi' and piss off 17 of them. ignore it. if you feel feisty, then flame back. >Thanks for the wonderful welcome to the world-wide internet...Really. it's an old pattern. but for what it's worth, welcome to it. :) ******************************************************************************* if you don't like my post, write your own. if you don't think you can post, that ought to tell you something. if you think you can, do. no excuses. if you still don't like my post, find one you do like. life is too short to be miserable. if you do like my post, i commend your good taste. sonny hays-eberts (paraphrased from rita mae brown) ebe...@donald.uoregon.edu

Usually the deal with distributors is that the factory will not undercut
a particular price ("retail" though retailrs can and often DO discount).
This extends to most distribution arrangements, not just software, for
the obvious reasons (why advertise and display a product to consumers if
they can say "That looks great!" and buy it from the factory for less?)

Still around, and still in law school? Nice that the Net has stable anchors.
