I purchased El-Fish a couple of days ago, and just today got around to creating a tank and animating a few fish. So far, so good; this all worked just fine. I edited a new tank, threw in a few plants, a couple of rocks, and an assortment of fish (some I created, some came with El-Fish). Now the problem: when I try to view my tank, only *one* of the various breeds of fish that I put in the tank appear (the breed called YELLY that was supplied with El-Fish). I tried viewing the two tanks that came with El-Fish, and got the same result. YELLY seems to be the only breed that will swim in my tanks. Technical info: I'm running El-Fish in high-res mode on a 486DX33 equipped with 4 meg of ram and an ATI VGA Wonder-XL video card (1M). Any suggestions? I know it's bad form to follow-up my own post, but I've figured out the problem, and I think it's worth sharing . . . I'm using DOS 6.0 with multiple configurations in my config.sys and autoexec.bat. In the past, I ran into a problem using this feature with WORLD CIRCUIT. With WORLD CIRCUIT, the joystick wouldn't calibrate when I booted using the multiple config. I solved it by putting a "pause" in the autoexec.bat immediately before executing the game. I cured the problem I was having with EL-FISH the same way. I don't know if the root cause is DOS 6.0 itself, or something else in my configuration, but the "pause" seems to have solved the problem. If anyone else has experienced problems with multple configs, I'd be interested in hearing about it. Scott -- Scott Borders sbor...@nyx.cs.du.edu border...@tandem.com

El-Fish uses lots of memory for each fish. if you don't have enough to display multiple fish at once it will cycle them--display some and then, when they move off screen show others. of course, if only one breed of fish is small enough to show at all, that is all you will see. cheers, -*- charles

I don't >know if the root cause is DOS 6.0 itself, or something else in my >configuration, but the "pause" seems to have solved the problem. My system is a 386/25 w/'387 and 4 Meg Ram. A couple of weeks ago I posted a note asking for help configuring memory for El-Fish. I was experiencing the same problems as you. Since that time I have upgraded to Dos-6.0 and use a multiple config, one for el-fish and one for everything else. Elfish config does not load EMM386, nor SmartDrv, nor Himem. Essentially reproducing the recomended config from the manual. El-fish now works great and gives me lots of fish. In fact, it works a little better than I expected. The manual says that there will only be 8 animated objects on the screen at any one time. There have been times when I have counted nine. Typically with schools of fish; I'll usually include between 4-6 of a small fish plus a number of others in either 1's or 2's. There have been times when the school of 6 is on screen with a couple of other pairs or a few singletons. Maybe schools only count as one? Steve
