I've just finished PhantomTris 1.1. PhantomTris is a tetris game in which the board rotates while you play. In this update, I corrected a bug that sometimes caused it to bypass asking for the name of someone when they got a high score. The file is called pt110.zip, and is currently located at ftp.ulowell.edu in the /pub directory (note: you won't be able to do an ls or dir, so you'll have to remember the name). If you have any comments or suggestions or anything, please send email to me at phan...@cmu.edu. Also, if you'd like a uuencoded version sent, send email also. One other thing, I should have the registered version completed over this summer. This will have several twists (between 10 and 20 probably). I'll make a formal anouncement when it is done by introducing PhantomTris II, which I just finished. So, get ready to register! :). I just FTP'd PhantomTris to see what it was like. I would like to post my comments here, instead of directly to the author, so that others may give there input as well, and comment on my comments. 1) The concept is GREAT!!! I became addicted instantly. The game is insanely fun. Good job. 2) Specific to my computer: it runs slowly, but I have an old 286. The rotations are slow, but hey, that is my fault, not yours. 3) The graphics are of low quality, but I imagine programming them in any higher quality would not only be quite difficult, but much slower. 4) Some of the rotation angles cause the screen to "shrink" where the blocks tend to APPEAR smaller than they actually are. I don't know if this is just an illusion, or maybe an error in the rotation code? 5) This is the point that is going to be debated: As in WELLTRIS (copyright Spectrum Holobyte) there should be grid lines. When the board rotates, it is very difficult to see if you are lined up in the right position to make a piece fit. Grid lines would help immensly. This would NOT be cheating. The point of the game, in my opinion, is the rotation, and the confusion that it causes. The low quality graphics cause lining up pieces to be difficult, and so I suggest grid lines. Othere than #5, I think the game is great. I LOVE watching people play, and watching there heads rotate along with the board on the screen. ___ ( > / Joshua Scott Lehrer __/________ /_ . . __.
