A few years ago a friend of mine had a game
called laser chess (on an amiga). Does anyone
know of this game? I want to get a copy of it.

I don't think it exists for the IBM with that name (although it might)
but if you tell us what it was like, there may be something similar
out there.

Yep, I have it....on the Amiga. This is a PC group, I think :)

Anyway, the program was actually in an issue of COMPUTE! magazine
years ago. Someone nicely typed it in, and tossed it around. It
became one of the most legendary AmigaBASIC games ever, and it is
still played at my place...just as popular as regular chess!

If I remember correctly, there were versions in the mag for every
platform, but I do not have access to the mag. If you want me to
mail a uuencoded LHA of the Amiga version, then please contact me
via EMail, so that we don't take up more bandwidth on csipgm with
this. However, if anyone has the IBM version as either the BASIC
source or as a UUENCODED ZIPfile, by all means, post the program!
It would save people from always coming to my place to try to zap
me....and I make a royal mess of them :) usually. :)

There is a PC version of laser chess. I used to have it, but I was running out
of room on my hard disk, so I junked it. I don't remember exactly where I got
it, I think it was wuarchive, but I'm not sure. Sorry I can't help more.

Bing! I just realized which game you were talking about. I loved
that game on my Atari 8-bit! As I recall, it was on the disk published with
COMPUTE!, so I never typed it in, but that means I should have the issue in
question at my parents house. The downside of this is that I'm not sure how
long it will be before I go there. But yes, I do believe that there was a
PC version. Maybe I'll go home so I can get it, now that I think about it...

I'd sure hope so, or I'll have to hit .... <q> and then <u> :)

I know I have that issue somewhere, and I've been looking for it ever
since that orriginal post, but those 1000 or so magazines are hard to
look though... In fact I remember what the cover looked like... Something
to do with prisms or something.... I remember it looked like a good game,
but it seems to me that I don't have it typed in soley because there was
NOT *sob* an IBM version.... It must have looked like a good game since
I still remember it... :)

>mail a uuencoded LHA of the Amiga version, then please contact me

Source? If so, I may be able to translate it to C or C++ or Pascal
(I'd never stick with BASIC :) ), and make it run on the IBM....

Anyway, if you have the source for any platform please send it to me...
And if you don't I'll just keep looking for that magazine... I *KNOW* I
still have it somewhere.... (maybe at my parents house)....

A friend of mine typed in Laser Chess for his Apple IIE using machine code.
If anyone is interested, I could ask him for a copy.

There does exist a couple of shareware versions for PC, too,
take a look at the nic.funet.fi:/pub/msdos/games/board directory.

I'm not sure if I have the program that was from Compute, but I have a
game here called Laser Chess from 8/90. It uses EGA graphics I believe.
The setup is a 8x8 board with some odd pieces such as lasers and mirrors
and such. Is this the game you are talking about?

If so I could easily e-mail it to you since it is pretty small (50K or so)
in ZIP form.

Really, what's the file name? And is it in the incoming directory or
msdos\Games\misc?
