The tree must be destroyed--It's the main cause of all the evil.  And trees are
made of . . . You need to throw something which has flammable liquid and
can stay lit at the tree.  That's the close of the game once you get out of the 
underground.

The curved dagger was in the room where you found the parchment--it kills the 
library monster.
