DS|(2) If you had to pick a _single_ company that was leading the wayin
  |the past couple of years it would have to be Origin. And there are plenty
  |of innovative things coming from other companies as well.

Well Origin might have some good games out, but they take too long. Like
Strike Commander, it was first said to come out the Christmas of 91 I
beleave, and here it is the Spring of 93 when it really did come out.

DS|[Invitation: anyone want to fire off a prediction or two on what new
  |developments / trends we're likely to see in computer gaming over the next
  |year or two? Mine:

DS|--SVGA becomes relatively frequent on "hot" games by Christmas '94.
  |--CD-ROM does NOT take over, but by middle of next year enhanced CD-ROM
  |versions of floppy games become common. Primarily speech-enhanced.
  |--Science-fiction adventure and role-playing games become much more frequent
  |--Role-playing games with detailed, formatted worlds, a la Darklands or
  |Pirates!, become more common.
  |--Someone makes a big hit with a graphic adventure game that has genuine
  |sophistication in its text and puzzles. [hmm, maybe wishful thinking]
  |--3DO, meanwhile, flops due to insufficient software. (It would be neat
  |to be wrong about this one, though.)

Well I would say that SVGA has to become a bigger deal because there are
more and more machines with it, however most of the SVGA games we are
seeing now are just blow-ups of VGA. It takes so much longer to draw
SVGA that the software companies make better looking VGA games than they
do SVGA. I think that CD-ROM will become much more wide stream, but
still not everyone will want one because of the high cost, and the
lowering prices of Optical drives. Most people are wanting more RAM and
a larger HD because of the software, so they will spend $1000 for memory
and a new HD before they will spend $600 on a new faster CD-ROM.
