Note: this has been posted to all game forums - please followup to strategic only. While this industry is rife with stories of games shipped before they were ready, this is probably the first case where a game has shipped after it was ready (see related post). But finally, Enemy Nations has been released. We go to manufacturing January 2 and you should be able to get a copy by the middle of January. For those that cant wait, the demo version of the final release is available at www.windward.net. The demo has very few restrictions on it and no restrictions on the number of players for multi-player games. For those of you that are not familiar with the game, Enemy Nations is best described as Red Alert meets Civilization and SimCity 2000. It is a real-time strategy game like Red Alert and Warcraft II. It differs, however, in several major respects including: · Native network support for TCP/IP, IPX, NETBIOS, TAPI, MODEM, and COMM. · Net play over the Internet without having to enter IP addresses. · A native Win32 game that runs on Win95, Windows 3.1, and Win/NT. · Runs at your Windows video resolution. Games have been tested at up to 1600x1200 screen resolution. · A fully adaptive real-time AI opponent that can play at 4 levels of difficulty. · A full Research and Development tree with over 50 items. · Fog of war affected by trees and terrain elevation. · Vehicle speed and combat strength affected by terrain. · Maps randomly generated for each game so you face a new challenge each time. · A much richer economic model with materials automatically trucked between buildings. · In multi-player you can see your allies units, share resources, and give units to other players. · Multiple windows of the map so you can see your base and the enemy base simultaneously. · A true isometric view with 4 zoom levels and rotation to 4 directions. In short, you will find a game that presents a much richer environment than Red Alert and Warcraft II. If you prefer the simplicity of Red Alert, then Enemy Nations may not appeal to you. But if you want a real-time strategy game that provides a richer economic model, a more sophisticated combat engine, and an environment that gives you a greater level of strategic options, then Enemy Nations is for you. If you want a game where players argue as to whether its more like Command & Conquer or more like Civilization, or more like a real-time war game, then Enemy Nations is for you. Or, if you simply want a different challenge, a real-time strategy game that is not a clone of any of the existing games, with an adaptive (as opposed to scripted) AI, then Enemy Nations is for you. The game is Enemy Nations. The publisher is Windward Studios, Inc. The demo is at www.windward.net Please feel free to repost this message anywhere appropriate. * all titles of other games are trademarks of their respective companies. ===== David Thielen www.windward.net home of Enemy Nations (Command & Conquer meets SimCity)
