Weird Slowdown in Games

Hello all,

First off here is my system config:
Alienware Area-51 laptop running XP Pro SP1
    2.2 Gig Pentium 4
    512 Mb Ram
    40 Gig HD
    Mobility Radeon 7500
    Creative SB Extigy
  Significant software:
    Norton Systemworks 2002
    Norton Internet Security 2002
    DirectX 9.0

I am having a problem with any game I play. It runs normally for about 10-15
minutes and then I get extreme slowdowns.

To try to fix this I've:
  stopped all unnecessary processes
defraged my HD and ran Scandisk
  ran Norton WinDoctor
re-installed the games effected (Alien vs Predator 2, IGI-2,
Independence War 2 to name some games)
  re-installed DirectX (both 8.1 and 9)
  disabled services not being used

Does anyone have any idea on how to fix this (hopefully without re-installing
XP)?

Thanks

Kern
