The Incredible Machine - Dynamix/Sierra
A cross between strategy and action game, depending on your
attitude to the scoring. Create humongous and elaborate
Rube Goldberg type contraptions to solve a problem, or just
for the fun of making one. The box is slightly beat up,
but everything else is present and in order. Oh, some of the
level access codes are written on the inside back cover.
Price: $22

Star Control - Accolade
A tactical space combat simulation with a bunch of different
ship and character types/races. This is the old one, not the
newer one. As such, it is far more towards the arcade end of
the spectrum. There is kind of an exploration and conquest
part, but it's pretty weak and the documentation for it sucks.
Price: $17

Battles of Destiny - Several Dudes Holistic Gaming/QQP
Strategic wargame of the Empire/Strategic Conquest genre. Most
people this to be the superior successor to Empire (as opposed
to Empire Deluxe). This is turn-based and incorporates ranged
artillery and a map builder for extended playability. Also a
modem mode but I have not tried it.
Price: $32

Spirit of Excalibur - Virgin Mastertronic (now Virgin Games)
This is a combination graphical adventure/fantasy RPG in very
nice VGA graphics (for its time anyway). You are the successor
to King Arthur and it is your job to try to reassemble the
Knights of the Round Table for a campaign against Morgan LeFay
I think, or some such evil from the north. Manual is pretty, but
could be more helpful, and comes with a nice map.
Price: $17

Follow the Reader - Disney
You (or more likely your child) create a story involving a
large gallery of choices for Mickey's actions including
making lunch, going on a picnic, ordering pizza, etc. Nice
animation, and for pre-readers, the words light up in red
as the sentence is read by a narrator. The reading is very clear.
Excellent.
Price: $22

Berenstain Bears Learn about Letters - Brittanica
Your child as either brother or sister bear, skate/skateboard
around looking for letters in the correct order. Each letter
reveals an animated object which starts with that letter. In a
sense, it's a grpahical adventure game. Quite good.
Price: $20

Reader Rabbit 2 - The Learning Company
Ths is recommended for beginning readers, I'd guess 5 to 7
years old depending on your kid. There are concentration-
type games, alphabetizing, vowel sounds, and rhyming. The
usual new generation VGA graphics and animation.
Price: $20
