Yo all. Possible spoilers, read at your own peril. Managed to finish X-wing on the weekend, after only a month (well, it's "only" when you have a full-time job & lots of sports, damn it's addictive :-), the Death Star is no more. Four missiles, sunk right into the exhaust hole. Anyway, I found a few funny things on the way there. First of all, I've been using QEMM & Stealth for the most part of the game. I got the music cutting off during missions/maze, but, frankly, I considered that a feature; I quite approved of it. I did, however, occassionally get the machine to hang, usually just as I was about to complete a mission (bastards!). This only seemed to happen in missions with a lot of ships active; the first time was towards the end of TOD 2, but it happened about once every two missions in TOD 3. I tried getting rid of stealth, even going back to (shudder) EMM386/Himem, but it still happened. Anyone else have the same problem? Around mid-TOD 3 had to complete a mission 5 times before I could finally hyper out after finishing, which really pleased me. Anyway, so much for bugs. I think. One other thing I noticed was that after a while in some missions my steering would become affected - it would keep drifting for a bit after I centred the joystick, making it really hard to line up things (eg mines). Re-calibrating didn't help, & my Flight-Stick's never had a problem like that before. Is it a feature of the ships in X-Wing (esp. the Y-Wing), or does it occur when your ship becomes damaged (even if nothing apparent from damage report & hull still green), or is it just me? Now, for a plot bug. I had great fun in TOD 3-1 with the Immortal constantly hassling me with waves of Interceptors, but I wanted to get my Diamond Eyes, so I just kept on shooting them down, long after the timer ran out. I even went really close so I could shoot them just after they left the ship. However, after about the tenth wave no-more came out! So, I thought to myself, time to get a Star Destroyer to my name. I tried the so-called blind spot from one of the strategy guides, & found it wasn't. However, after a bit of fooling around I took out the shield generators with lasers, and found a _real_ blind spot, just below the engine ports at the back of the ship. After taping the fire button closed :-), I sit back, have a bite to eat, and five minutes later KABOOM! No more Immortal. Teach them to name their ship like that & ignore me after only ten waves ;-). But, what do I find several missions later, but the Immortal sending out fighters to attack us! So, was the Star Destroyer misnamed? Should it have been the Phoenix? Think they would have just had a back-up list of names to use if one got taken out somehow, wouldn't you? Now, for a few questions. Does anyone know if there is a blind spot on the Nebulon B Frigates? I did not manage to take out one during the entire game; I never even get the shields down. I'd prefer to go up solo vs 3 Star Destroyers, rather than a frigate. Might have to send something to the Strategy Guide people; a couple of the strategies they gave were wrong, and there were several missions that didn't have one that definitely needed it. If you have a problem with one you can mail me; I remember most of them :-) Lastly, when does the Mission Disk come out? Some of the local shops have been advertising they'd have it by last week for the last couple of months, but last week has come & gone. On an entirely unrelated note, anyone know when TSR/SSI's Dark Sun will finally be released? (Definitely by September 92. Definitely by October. Definitely by January ...) Peter K.
