I compared the : Monster 3D 2 with an M3D1on my P200MMX. What the benchmark people say : is true, the V2 is strongly limited by the CPU power. I have a 30% : framerate increase in Quake2 ( on the M3D2 compared to the M3D) with : my system overclocked at 250Mhz, and only 10% at the usual 200MHz. So : the difference between a voodoo and a voodoo2 card should be even : smaller on his P166, definitely not worth a 100% price increase. : But I'd strongly consider going 3dfx instead of all the other : chipsets. I have no problems with any game with my Monster3D, be it : D3D, OpenGL, native 3dfx, they have solid, proven drivers... I found : out that going against the standards is costly in terms of nerves, : back from my old DOS days: I went out and bought a Gravis Ultrasound, : the sound was incomparably better than the Soundblaster's, yet most : games did not support it, and SB compatibility drivers sucked : terribly. From what I hear and read from other people the situation : seems similar today with 3D cards: you've got the 3dfx standard and a : bunch of runner-ups. : Karim I picked up a Creative Labs Voodoo2 8MB card for $149 recently. Can't wait to try it out when it arrives! And now I've heard that Creative has a download site for the full (or at least a pumped up) version of Incoming. Paul
