HELP!!!!!!

We have set up a small network between 4 computers running under win
95/98 (1 95, and 3 win 98). We have set up both IPX and TCP/IP (set as
the default) network protocols. The system works fine and we can freely
transfer files between the 4 computers using windows explorer etc. We
have also successfully played Diablo with 4 players using the IPX
multiplayer option. The problem is that the other games that we want to
play will only work with 2 players (any combination) using the IPX
option and not at all with the TCP/IP. If we try and play with 3 or
more using IPX the games crash. The games we have been trying to play
are Netmech (mechwarrior 2), heavy gear, and janes fighters anthology.
In the past we have successfully played 4 player netmech with the same
system settings. Same for heavy gear. We are going crazy trying to
figure out why it is not working. We have a full set of legal copies of
the game (amazing, but true). If we remove one of the protocols (in
case they were conflicting) it doesn’t help. We have a properly
terminated cable setup (BNC). Diablo works but the others don’t .
WHY????

Actually one difference is that 3 of the 4 computers are using win 98.

Netbios or whatever is not present as a protocal (apparently a potential
source of conflict)

Our settings are as follows

TCP/IP

Address 168.252.196.xx x is unique to each computer
  255.255.255.0
client for ms networks and file and printer sharing are selected in
bindings
rest is as default

IPX

Frame type 802.3
Sockets 16
Connections 32
Address 0 or BADF000D or 123456

The rest is default

So have we fogotten something?
