Alone in the Dark

Fairly early in the game, I'm having trouble getting past the big dragon/bird like figure at the top of the stair case (it has the deadly whipping tail)... any tips here would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Get the keys from the vase in the bedroom. Break the vase and get them. open the dresser in that room and you will find two mirrors. Put the mirrors on the statues in the corners by the heads of the stairs to defeat the demons (just as in the painting behind the door in on if the bedrooms).
