Any recommendations on a good adventure game?
I have a bunch of unplayed oldies that I'm working through but I want to know
what's out there that is relatively new.

Thanks.

Nothing much in a good adventure game that is relatively new that I know of.
The only game I know in the works for the P.C. to be finished in Nov. 2014
is Dreamfall, the Last Chapter. Here is a link to a trailer. It was on
Kickstarter a while back and the link is about expanding the game to
consoles..
http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/2013/06/27/dreamfall-chapters-next-gen-consoles/But that is a long time from now. In the meantime, I am playing a fewoldgames that I play once in a while, like Pandora Directive and a fewothers.Sometimes I download an older game from www.gog.com who have a lot ofgoodolder games you might not have played or your original disc doesn'twork, etc. Some people who lurk here may have something else to suggest.Mary

Thanks Mary, I appreciate the input.

I stopped playing games for about a year and a half. I got stuck in RHEM 3 and
burnt out. What a sissy I am. Anyway, I finally finished it and remembered a
demo I played, "Lost Horizons" before my burn out. I went looking for it again
and I could only find it for download. Amazon has it for 9.99 so I took the
plunge. Great game, third person. I was impressed with the download because I
was able to burn it to disk after it installed.

After I finished Lost Horizons I found out about the "Secret Files" series. They
mention it when the game finishes. I have never heard of it before so I
downloaded a demo, like it and downloaded the full first game from Amazon. Same
as before, installed and burn to disk. I'm now running Windows 7 now so I had
to update a protection driver of some sort the game needed. That wasn't much of
a problem.

I have a bunch of games that I purchased sitting on the shelf. I'll get to them
eventually, if I live long enough. I was surprised that most games I find on
Amazon are for download only and no box version. The reason could be because
these games are foreign made but that's just a guess on my part.

My next game will be Portal from Steam, I can't find a box version. I played the
demo which wasn't much but I'll take a chance on it. Portal 2 can still be
purchased in a box from Amazon so if I like Portal I'll but Portal 2.
Unfortunately I won't be able to burn Portal to disk. I don't think it is
possible with Steam games.

I know you live in Canada (or used to) and can't get some games from Amazon US.
Some of these downloadable games from Amazon do not specify US only like some of
their games do. I'm sure you have investigated it.

Thanks again for the feedback.
I hope your well.
Take care.

I got stuck in Rhem 2. I thought it was boring and never went back to it. I
tried a demo of Lost Horizons when it first came out but I wasn't completely
taken with it, but maybe it was ok.. Its still on Amazon.com as a download
for $9.99 but they ask for your credit card first, so I went no further.

After I posted my last message to you, I remember a game that is not that
old you might like - "Whispered Worlds" - no shooting, no action, just an
adventure game. Its quite funny in parts, and I liked the acting. You might
want to check it out.
Its probably still on Amazon.com.

I use my desktop to play games and still use Win XP. I like it better than
Windows 7, but I have Win 7 on my desktop and it seems ok, but I like XP
better. Windows 8 doesn't sound too good. I think MS have worn themselves
out with Windows as an OS. They've made enough money :)
I played the first two Secret Files games. I didn't play the last one.

It is also cheaper for Amazon to let people download it as there is no extra
expenses like a box, a small manual maybe, and mailing costs to you. with a
download, they just need your credit card number and thats it. Since you
already have a bunch of games waiting for you to play, are you still looking
for other games to add to your games?

You must have a good memory.
I usually don't buy downloadable games, except I've downloaded a few from
gog.com but they are different as they don't care where you live, you can
download their games.

I still live in Canada. Amazon.com rules will sell some games to Canadians,
but it is more complicated in other ways about
shipping games to Canada and some other countries. They now have an "Import
tax" I would have to pay if I bought something from them over $20.00, and
their shipping is quite expensive, a lot more than it should be. So I don't
buy computer games from them.

I used to buy all my computer games at stores near me in the 90's and even
into the 2000's while adventure games were still popular, but as they became
not as popular, I couldn't get them in stores here, and maybe bought a few
from the Internet, but had to be under $20.00 as that is our skimpy Customs
exemption. After that, I had a friend in the U.S. who would send games to me
that I wanted. Otherwise, I would probably have to pay a lot to get them, so
I was lucky to have her.

Amazon.ca (Canada site) never had many PC games, or I would have been able
to buy from them, but they never had a good selection on games and a lot of
other things and though it's better than it was, it's nothing like
Amazon.com which has far more population.

Did you post here a long time ago? I don't remember you. I've been here off
and on since around late 1990's.

One of the last, really liked games I purchased is 'The Book of
Unwritten Tales'. Google the reviews. I know it's available on Steam
but you should be able to get the boxed game somewhere. There is a
patch out for the boxed version that is already incorporated in the
steam one.

I got it for $10 last week, so you might wait for a sale. Plenty of reviews
on that page too

I finished this one recently, enjoying it very much. It's not an
adventure game; rather, an action-puzzle game. A few of the jumping puzzles
near the end I found quite difficult, taking multiple attempts, but it's a
good game. Portal2 is supposed to be even better, haven't started that one
yet

Last time we communicated I remember you stating that the RHEM series wasn't
your favorite. I agree it isn't for everyone. To me it's a true
point/click/puzzel adventure game. Tough as nails though and a lot of traveling.

Yes, I liked XP a lot also. Unfortunately for me I must of had too much junk on
my system because it took forever to load. I find Win 7 not too bad once one
gets used to it (like most things). I still like the XP interface better though.
I never even considered Windows 8.

Yes, we communicated about 2 years ago or so. You were telling me about the
problems you had getting games from Amazon and other US sites. They wouldn't
sell to you because of where you lived.

Boy do I hate action games. I was doing well with the old Tomb Raider games
until I had to jump over whirling swords or something. I get to frustrated, I'm
slow.
I hate timed puzzels too, where you have to do something within a certain amout
of time.
I might as well through in sounds too. The first Myst had a puzzel like that. I
believe it was in the spaceship or something. I have come across a few others.

That looks like a real winner Andrew. I'm gonna be on the lookout for that one.
I thought Cyan stopped making games and turned everything over to Ubisoft.
Guess not.

Thanks, thats one of the ones I have on my wannaget list. I saw it on Amazon and
I also saw an addon for it. Amazon wants 17.02 for Unwritten Tales and 14.99 for
the addon. It looks like the addon could be another complete game.

I have it on my wannaget list. I beliece there are four of them. Amazon has then
for 9.99 each. They may be downloadable only game though.

You beat me to it :). I got Gog newsletter today too and see they have
Unwritten tales. It would be a good time to get it. the price is right. I
got it from Gog when it was on a weekend promo before for similar same
price. I thought it was just an OK game, but many people liked it a lot.
Dreamfall is on special price also this weekend for $5.99. I liked it a lot,
better than The Longest Journey though it was a good game too. Another cute
little game is Inherit the Earth for $2.39. They had a few other older
games -7th Guest and 11th Hour which are good if you want to replay them,
like I sometimes do.

I notice Whispered World is also on Gog.com. I don't know if its on sale,
but I think it's $9.99 on Gog which is a good price.
They also give you a few reviews and a some comments about the game. You can
only download but most games can be burned to a DVD and its yours. Check Gog
out.
