A brief review: The Cat Lady A high quality, award-winning adventure-horror game which has gone pretty much unmentioned except on adventure sites: That's my summary. I'm not an adventure gamer either, but picked it up when GOG added it to their catalog in April, and have come back to it more and more often since then. I think this speaks to tcl's quality, that even after the initial shock of the primitive AGS engine, the stark color palette (one forum poster described it as 'chiascuro'), the blaring poorly-balanced music, and downbeat theme, I kept coming back to find out more of this suicidal-depressive old maid's story. The writing and superb voice-acting for the two main characters are the real stars here, and going through the occasionally fairly deep dialogue trees was not tedious or disappointing. It's great interactive story-telling, and I wanted to help this lady tell her story, and find out how it ended. The gameplay is partitioned into short 1 or 2 hour-long chapters, with simple puzzles, that make it easy to progress through. Be aware there are multiple endings (none of which are really 'bad'), depending on how caring and empathetic your character is to other characters. Which is a great thing to see in a game! The 'best' ending, which I didn't get, depends on multiple factors which you'll discover for yourself, but watch out for a 'green sanity meter' section. You'll have to get a perfect score there to have a chance at the 'best' ending. So: A wonderful game that I think many would love to experience. The Cat Lady is Highly recommended!
