It seems to be out now Feb 16th with UK releases March 2nd . WIckED (shock) pirate sites have it from yesterday 15th. Reviews pretty good. "psychological action thriller" http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/alan-wake (\__/) (='.'=)

I bought it and it is ok but too on rails for me to really like it. You are
funneled and hand held through it all and it is esy to see it was made for
the console crowd. No real challenge so far for me and I am on episode2.

Its not a challenge at all, just a fun ride I thought. Sometimes
directed experience games are fun like a roller coaster is... you're
not there to experiment, just enjoy a certain experience you wouldn't
be able to exactly duplicate any other way.
I'm curious if you liked/played the Max Payne games? I thought it was
very similar to that. Max Payne was originally a PC game so while its
hard to mention AW without mentioning consoles, I dont think that's
why the game is like it is.

I certainly would not buy it for the PC. When it first came out on Xbox I
purchased it because it was NOT going to be available for the PC so I was
extremely annoyed when I saw it out on PC! I hate the xbox controls for this
type of game, that and the inferior graphics and being more expensive and
also being led to believe it was a 'free roam' game has put me off for good
with the authors. A second rate story that would make Steven King shudder!

If you want to promote PC gaming, it would be better not to buy
console games at all. If they are worth buying, they will come out on
the PC.
I have a 360 that I bought because the girlfriend wanted kinect
w/fitness games. I use it a lot for Netflix etc (great device for
that) but I dont buy games for it.
Purchasing console games is just voting with your wallet to say you
want innovation on the PC to stop, and all games to be written to the
lowest common denominator spec.

I was surprised that originally it was for the xbox, only as it was
promoted as an intelligent game. Intelligent in the same sentence as xbox
being an oxymoron :)

Console games aren't catering geniuses, to be sure. I had not heard
the word "intelligent" used in any Alan Wake marketing, but I would
assume that has something to do with the theme/plot which is of the
psychological thriller variety; so in that sense maybe it's "thought
provoking"? Making your way through the game doesn't really require
you to think a lot. It will scare the hell out of you at times, the
scenery will amaze you, but you don't find yourself sitting there
going "hmm how do I solve this puzzle?".

I have Max Payne and found it a lot more of a challenge. The story is better in AW though. Even finding objects in AW is dead simple, its like there are big billboards put in front of you to find everything. AW is a good interactive movie but it is not very good as a game, IMO.

It would sell massively on the PC too so it is reidiculous not to have it on the PC too.

Unless you're going to introduce some very interesting twists, new enemies, etc, a game like this should last about 4-6 hours tops. I would never regret playing through but the last couple of hours got a bit repetitive and I started thinking about the old Dave Chapelle "let's wrap it up" skit. I have not yet loaded the bonus levels, either.
