I have a Windows tablet PC and I want to try some adventure games on it. Has anyone else tried that? I had a quick go on Broken Sword 2.5 - and while it does work, the clickable controls which are instantly responsive when using a mouse - take several hits before they are recognized when prodding with my fingers. Specifically, I'm wondering if the ScummVM games might work. I remember that DOTT had big verb buttons as well as a decent on-screen inventory. Has anyone had any experience with this combo?

The reason simply is that the control scheme of a mouse never really matches properly to a finger/stylus contol. As for the recognition it really depends on the type of display. You probably have a cheap resistive display, those are known to have responsiveness problems. Kapazitive touchscreens are better in this area but need special styluses if they should work with pen input (finger input is another area) But even then it comes down to the problem of having an entirely different input scheme. The ipad with its finger capable capacitive touchscreen is way better in a way that the handful of point and click adventures available for the thing really are tailored to the fingerprint input and play really nicely. ScummVM less, I have had it running on a jailbroken ipad and while you could play the games with it, it was less than enjoyable given that they got the controls about 80% right. I dont know what the situation with Android tablets and the ScummVM is, but I assume the same.

Can you point at some (of the latter) to recommend? The original poster probably doesn't have an ipad, but I do. --Z -- "And Aholibamah bare Jeush, and Jaalam, and Korah: these were the borogoves..." *

Sword and Sworcery is more along the lines of a relatively slow action adventure but nevertheless absolutely awesome and the Choose your own Adventure ports are more on the RPG side but nevertheless they deserve to be listed here. Outside of that there are several Japo like interactive Stories one from EA but I forgot its name, which is a CSI like detective series with monthly releases. Thats pretty much what I have discovered until now. If you are into hidden object games, you can get them by the ton, they seem to be released pretty much on a weekly basis (probably because they are easy to produce and sell). Since I hate those kind of games, I dont have a good overview. Also there is more puzzle games than I listed before (seventh guest and clandestiny)
