any coop adventure games?

Ok lady gamers, my wife and I are trying to get more interested in each
others hobbies (kids are now out of the house). My wife unwinds watching
movies, I unwind in front of the computer (adventure or light FPS (halo,
UT2004 and Raven Shield)). I agreed to watch more movies (not to
difficult) and she wants to try a computer co-op game (I have a wireless
LAN at home). She is not interested in FPS or violet games (well maybe
if we could be on the same team), so what is left except adventure.
-Mike

BTW her computer (older one) is an Athlon 64 3500+ with an ATI X700. It
should play anything except maybe the newest games. I would use a new
laptop (dual core, 2gb ram, ATI X1400)

I don't know of any adventure games like that but there are card
games...which of course, isn't what you were asking. ( IF interested
though...try SilverCreek for cards, it d/ls to your computer-works great
with LAN)

Annie, thanks I will check it out. It sure seems that if you can go
around on a team (COOP) and kill things, you should be able to go around
and explore things. I think some adventure games do let you play more
then one person, but only one person at a time.

As a game developer and senior college student, I don't know of any
Cooperative Adventure games, let a lone RPG games. I searched on
google and came to the conclusion here aren't any. Our current project
is called The Journeyman Chronicles, a remake of an old adventure game
series called The Journeyman Project. Our features may include a
cooperative mode, but as for now, it wont be readily playable. Sorry.

I too am surprise there are no Coop Adventure games. You'd think that
would be an excellent mix for a game.

It seems that working as a team and maybe splitting up to look for
something to solve a puzzle would work. Maybe we will see this first in
an action/adventure. My wife actually played part of a RavenShield level
(tactical shooter)which I set up to be pretty easy. She was not very
interested. She did watch me play parts of Syberia which had great
graphics but if she unwinds using the computer it is Solitaire or one of
the POPCAP games. Oh well she doesn't tie up the computer much!!

I think Project Eden is the one that comes closest and is a pretty good game
to boot. It could probably be found very cheap nowadays and should run well
on older systems/laptops since it came out back in 2001.

Lego Star Wars 2 (and probably the 1st as well but I'm not 100% sure) also
has coop mode, won several year awards and is lots of fun:

Hope that helps.

Thanks. I picked up 2 copies of Project Eden from Amazon for under
$20USD shipped. So far it's been fun (just finished 1st level).

Don't forget to tell us about your experience when you've made it to the
end. (I liked the game, btw, but I played it alone.)

I liked it a lot -- also playing solo. Unfortunately, I was playing
the Playstation release, which was full of bugs.

It's a nice distinction to tell American soldiers (and Iraqis) to die in
Iraq for the sake of democracy (ignoring the question of whether it's
*working*) and then whine that "The Constitution is not a suicide pact."

Just put the 2nd copy on my laptop and patched both. My daughter will be
home from college next week so we can try the co-op mode.

I had a chance to try this co-op with my son-in-law. We played about
half of the first level. It works very well. We each play one of the 4
team members and can switch to other members just like playing solo. If
I try to switch to the player he is playing I see a quick 'unavailable'
flash. We split into 2 teams and could search an area.

I am playing mostly solo and like the game a lot. It was very dark on my
LCD even with the brightness at 95%. I just last night (playing the mall
level) figured out how to increase the Gamma in the CCC (ATI X700 card)
menu. Now I may start over.

I am a complete necroposter here, i know. But i just HAD to post about my experience. It was the same issue, me and my girl wanted to play games together. I like adventures a LOT, also some shooting/fighting can tingle me behind the ears *wink*, but shes not too much into shooting. Shes more like the housekeeper and adventurer.
So here's what we have tried:

Portal 2 Co-Op Campaign - We actually turned down a party, opened a vodka home and played this because we got SO into it at the first try. Theres no shooting, the single player story is just amazing (as Valve always has been in their games) and the Co-Op story is pretty good too. And not to mention the millions of levels designed by other players to conquer in co-op more...just amazing experience.
Basically its the puzzle/arcade games brought up to a whole new, modern level. Just amazing.

Then the unfortunate fortune happened to us - Minecraft! Avoid this one like the plague! Or not. Amazing WIDE world to experience, find stuff, build a home and craft items you need. She did all the farming and helped me with mining, i did the crafting and building. Together we explored the world. A TON of fun really, friendly game too. Not too many encounters, but youd still have to draw thy sword every now and then.
So why did i say avoid Minecraft like the plague? Because it will not get you caught up for hours, not for days. We have played Minecraft for 8 months now :D It's a disease!

We have tried some other games, which wasn't too much:
Dead Island Co-Op - Cool game for a guy, single player can get real scary and jumpy for the zombie theme. Why we didnt like it was due to the repetitive quests, which pretty much each one (the main story and sidequests) was just fetch missions. Bring this from there, so you could take this here to a third place. Boring.

Battlefield 3 - We joined a server, i thought she would be a good aim in my tank or my chopper and we would master the war grounds :D But it was too gory and bloody for her. Too much shooty-bangy-run'y ;D

Now we are also looking for a good adventure game to take a pause from Minecraft. A good story to explore through together. They just dont make these and i dont understand why. What could be better then a co-op game? I mean EVERY sale is a double sale...think about it, oh mighty game developers.

Sorry again to raise the post from the dead :D Hope it helps someone, whos

I would say that *all* adventure games can be co-op (as long as you are the
same room).

It's not like FPSs where the fun is jumping about and shooting at things; in
adventures the pleasure comes from solving puzzles and interacting with
other characters.

I have played several games with my GF where one of us would be in charge of
the mouse and we'd both discuss what to do next.

She is not a great fan of the Lucas Arts classics (Monkey Island, Sam and
Max, DOTT Etc.) but she did enjoy:

1) Gabriel Knight - 1 - 3.
2) Broken Sword - 1 & 2.
3) The Secret Files - all 3.

If you want to play co-op games on separate PCs, sorry I don't know of any
adventures that work that way.

I agree with Vince. Gabriel Knight 1-3 were all good, Broken sword 1 and 2
good as well. I only played the first game in Secret files series. They are
all strictly adventure games. Not shooters or combat. I mainly only play
adventure games, I don't do combat games, but I have played a few
adventure/action such as Twinsen 1 and 2 and American McGee's Alice and
liked them. You might check out www.gog.com - mostly older PC games, many
are adventure, and see if you see anything there you like. You can download
their games and they often have games on sale on weekends.
I don't know if there are any forums or Usenet groups which discuss the
games you listed on your post, but you might something if you search around.
This group is mainly only adventure games discussions, though we don't get
many posts here now.
