Ok, I bought QFG4. It was buggy. I got the patch. Now QFG4 is MORE buggy.
Examples, you ask?
o Click on far right edge of screen in forest where you cannot go right, and
your hero walks north, above the ground, up to heaven or something, and does
not stop.
o Count your money and find yourself staring at "C:\SIERRA\SHADOWS>_"
. and everyone's favorite:
o Restore... and restore... and restore... and restore...
I called Sierra Customer Service today (tech support was "busy") and they said
that there was no intention of putting out another patch for QFG4. This may
not be true, knowing Sierra Customer Service.
I recommend that anyone suffering from these problems take advantage of
Sierra's 30 day no questions asked return policy... if you check the docs,
you can return your game if you do not like it, you only have to tell them
why. I suggest you tell them this:
Sierra,
Like many others, I have enjoyed your games for many years. Unfortunately,
your bloodthirsty lust for marketing brainwashed you into releasing several
games like QFG4 with a severly buggy Dos Extender Engine. Your patch has
failed at fixing these problems in my copy of QFG4. I am returning it with a
copy of the receipt for a full refund. Perhaps when you have finally perfected
your engine, I will purchase the updated copy. Until then,
Your game has crashed... Kinda makes ya wish you waited until
you got it to work, doesn't it?
* Restore * Restart * Quit
(He he he, a little SOFTWARE humor there.)

I should call them to once again complain about the fact that I never recieved my second free game as promised in their Sprint offer. Dave be...@uxh.cso.uiuc.edu

The thing that really annoys me is that whenever you update your game you can't restore from a saved game anymore. Thus I have had to restart completely on more than one occasion because Sierra was too lazy to write a convert program. However there is one problem with boycotting companies that sucumb to monetary greed: we would end up boycotting them all. Most of the big companies now produce hordes of patches for there games, maybe they should take some lessons from Donald Knuth (the author of TeX) who offers cash to people who can find a bug in TeX, and isn't any poorer for it. It is disgusting to think that the first thing I do after purchasing a new game isn't to install it but rather to look for the company's BBS number so I can get the latest patch release(s) :(. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Mike Henders The opinions expressed above are my mdhe...@acs.ucalgary.ca own and do not necessarily represent those of the University of Calgary. ------------------------------------------------------------------------
