The story so far:
    done tunnel.of.love, trixies.caravan, gator.golf,
    been to ball.of.twine, vortex.

I know I need a few things from the ball of twine, but I don't know how.
I've been upstairs but can't seem to get to the other platform, or to the
    twine itself.

Can anyone help ? (is there a hint sheet / walkthrough yet ?)

Yep, by helio-chopter from 'world-of-fish'. I have tried going back to there
and waiting to see if it comes back but it doesn't. I also haven't seen it
anywhere else.

please - not so cryptic.

If you have the warped wrench, you can use it on the big fiberglass fish.
Then climb in again and get Max to join you. The results are hilarious.
