Check http://www.sega.com/segapc for release dates.
However, since none of the magazines have started talking about it yet,
I suspect its release date is a ways off.

Actually Obsidian has a pretty firm release date of January 10th, so not
that far off.

The game will ship on 5-CDs for Windows 95. I wrote a preview for Online
Gaming Review, based on a pre-alpha I played. The game seems quite
interesting, with many puzzles and lots of nice graphics and music.

Doh! Checked right after I posted that and noticed the January 10th
date.
Btw, I dunno about anyone else, but I get an error when I try to
download
the Obsidian demo from OGR using Netscape.

I've been having problems with the demo too. I've found two different
zip files floating around - each containing different files. One
crashes when I run the install program, the other zip file seems to be
corrupted when it gets to the "big" file (I can't remember the
extension). If you find a working demo, let me know...

Yeah, OGR has had problems with downloads. The error usually indicates
that the FTP server is full. If you want to try and get it via FTP, you
can go to "ftp.ogr.com" and to pub/demos and the Obsidian demo is
OBSDEMO.ZIP It is 18 megs in length however, you have been warned. ;)

Oops.. actually it was my fault. The link was bad. I have fixed it
however, sorry about that.

Me too - I got both. One goes so far as to have the grey skull-like face
on the Mtropolis player, but running that one gives me an error box
without text on it <g>. The other zip also uncompresses but has a stock
Win '95 exe icon on the player.
Bummer. Still, I've downloaded the MOV files on
http://www.sega.com/segapc
so at least I see a bit of what it looks like. Nice

Hi all,

If you'd like some info on the game, check out the preview Dan Watts
wrote for us over at GamePen
(http://www.gamepen.com/previews/obsidian.html)

This will be updated soon, as Dan just got the Beta from SegaSoft and
will be taking a look at it.

As for a working demo, I have a zip disk with a 30.5 meg demo SegaSoft
fedexed me today. You can expect it up on our site by the weekend.
There is a link to SegaSoft's FTP up at GamePen now
(http://www.gamepen.com/cradle/obsidian/) which will get you a 17.8 meg
demo. Again, this weekend you'll be able to get the bigger demo
straight from our server.

Well, it's at times like this that one must learn to laugh at oneself.
As it turns out, the demo in question is only 18.8 meg when compressed.
So, take what I said about a humongous demo with a grain of salt (Well,
since I was just plain wrong, don't take it at all!).

Oops!

There's thread necromancy and then there's thread reaching-into-the-bowels-
of-the-abyss.

If you really want the demo, try
http://download.cnet.com/Obsidian-demo/3000-2097_4-10004172.html .
Although download.com isn't anybody's favorite site anymore -- I
wouldn't directly execute the self-extracting-exe they offer.

You can buy the complete game (new) from Amazon for $99.95.
Better hurry there's only one left. Free shipping too.
There are 11 used versions for sale starting at $12.54 thru $49.99

Great game. I still have my copy somewhere. I should try and see if it will load
and play on Windows 7. I'm surprised GOG or Steam doesn't offer this game.
