Consider the following.
Civil strife breaks out, the local law enforcement are nowhere to
be found and the state and federal authorities have their heads up
their fundamental orifices.
Fiction? I think not.
Try LA, hours after Rodney King's assailants were acquitted.
When people realized what was happening they mobbed the gun stores
and found to their horror that they had to wait two weeks+ to take
possession. In the wake of the Brady Bill firearms sales are up and
a lot of these are sold to people who probably have never held a gun
before and have no real concept of the safe ownership of a gun or
indeed any weapon [Shudder].
Part of the social contract that has evolved is that we expect the
social structure to provide protection from random and organised acts
of violence. Someone in law enforcement ( in some of the cities,
Washington in fact ) has established it as a point of law that the
forces to which we delegated our defence no longer are obligated to
provide it. It is therefore proper that individuals resume this
responsibility. The constitution specifically states this is a pre-
existing right. Twaddle about some weapon being banable because it
has no sporting or hunting purpose betrays a fundamental misunderstand-
of about 1000 years of common law ( would you hire a Clinton taught
constitutional lawyer ? ) and the intent of the framers of the con-
stitution.
But anyhow as this is a game related group let me make this comment.
PONG bored the hell out of me. PONG ON PCP ( Mortal Kombat ) still
bores the hell out of me. But.... I do think it is questionable to allow
young kids to have access to something like MK and its ilk. A total ban
is probably not sustainable on 1st Amendment grounds ( Thank You Messers
Jefferson/Madison et al. ) but restriction of access in public places
probably is. This coupled with responsible parenting is by far the
best solution even if the bureaunazi control freaks hate the idea that
the public knows it own mind better than they do.
Nuff said.
Abject apologies for my tirade.
