Virgin games hanging system

This is related to more than just adventure games, but it
*does* relate to them, and I didn't get any responses
over in comp.sys.ibm.pc.games (very little traffic there).
I hope someone out there can help.

I just upgraded my motherboard and disk. I went from a
386DX33 to a 486DLC40, and from an MLM disk to an IDE.
Now whenever I try to run either Wonderland or Spot,
both by Virgin, my system locks up so badly that I have
to hit the reset button--Ctrl-Alt-Del doesn't work.
The machine has a Turbo button, so I've tried this at
both speeds--no help. No other games are having this
sort of problem, and I have a fair number of them.
Spot ran fine on the old system. This is the first
time I've installed Wonderland, since I didn't have
enough disk before.

Another problem, which is only slightly annoying
instead of deadly, is with the Sierra games (KQ5,
SQ4, LSL5). I have a SoundBlaster Pro, but if I
configure the game to use the SoundBlaster, running
the game gets me a message telling me it can't
configure my music hardware, then the machine locks
up and I have to reboot. If I configure the game
to use the AdLib driver instead, it runs okay.
They ran fine on the old system, and I'm pretty sure
they were configured for the SoundBlaster there.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
