Have you been to the isle of wonder? After you defeat the 5 trolls, if
you go to the right off the beach you will find a yard full of books and the
bookworm. You need to trade him something for a rare book. That something is
found on the island of the beast, before the boiling pond screen (make sure you
picked up the sentence floating in the water at the beach of the isle of
wonder).
The lamp seller will trade you a lamp which you must substitute for
another one near the end of the game (you need to see which one during the
MEANWHILE scene you see on one occasion when you enter the pawn shop).
