Okay, the DLC isn't really much to write home about - soundtrack, artbook, some pointless weapon skins - but why let free stuff go wasting? Personally I wasn't that impressed with the game when I first played it back in 2013 - it lacked character - but it's not really a bad game and at the price offered, well worth what you pay for it ;-)

You should mention this is 2013 and not classic DOS version. I thought
this was the original SW!

Not everyone played the original when it came out and - with the glut of constant new releases available every month - there's little incentive for many to go back and play an older game. So it is quite likely that somebody may have waited until recently to experience the original Build-engine title. Still, if somebody is more interested in the first game but doesn't feel $10 is a worthy investment - something I find completely understandable, since with a lot of older games I only play them for a few minutes before the old-school game-design (keycards!) and interface drive me to distraction - then they need only wait. The original is often given away as a freebie by digital storefronts; at one time or another, I have seen it offered for free on GOG, HumbleBundle, and Steam. (In fact, just looking I see that the original unmodified Shadow Warrior (1997) is free on Steam right now. The slightly updated "Shadow Warrior Redux" cost $9.99) (On further study, I've learned that it's free on GOG as well and the current holders of the copyright - Digital Devolver - have announced the classic version will be permanently free. But the redux updates are excluded from that offer. Of course, with a little work you can nearly the same results by using the datafiles of the free version with an open-source port of the engine so whether the update is worth $10 is arguable.) Personally, I was even less a fan of the original games - classic or redux - than I was on the 2013 reboot. Although it had a lot of interesting gameplay features - it pushed the Build engine to its limits - and the same irrevent tone and humor of the othe Build-engine games - I mostly remember it for its tedious level design and uninspired combat. The reboot isn't much better in these regards but at least it has better visuals. Still, if you are a fan of the franchise, it's a great to be able to pick up the titles without having to pay a dime ;-) > Also I don't think the original had any pointless paid DLC, but it has > been years since I played it (not since it was new.) The original game received two official expansion packs - "Twin Dragon" and "Wanton Destruction". Both were released as free downloads.

Ah, I see your confusion. Although I stated I played the game in 2013 and it added DLC, the poster "Ant" - who requested clarification on which version was free - was /not/ responding to that post; he was responding to the original post by Zaghadka. >>The original game received two official expansion packs - "Twin >>Dragon" and "Wanton Destruction". Yes, but that's not the post Ant was responding to ;-) I'm actually replaying Shadow Warrior 2013 now; it's not as bad as I remember. The sword-play is more fun than I recall, but the levels are - though pretty - rather lackluster.

The sword-play is more fun than I recall, but the levels are >- though pretty - rather lackluster. I never played that one, just the original which I was not particularly fond of. Of all the Build engine games I think the one I liked best (after Duke Nukem 3D of course,) was Blood. Shadow Warrior was kinda meh, like a Jackie Chan movie done by Adam Sandler, with him mugging at the camera in every scene. It's "humor" got old fast. I pretty much don't bother with remakes these days since they're all made to the modern ADHD teen taste with QTEs and such. The remake of Tomb Raider (and subsequent games in that series) kinda soured me on remakes completely unless they have the ORIGINAL gameplay intact and just updated graphics/engine and no one is really making those. One single QTE in a game, I will not buy it. Control systems designed for a console controller, I will not buy it. I use a PC, I want a damn game designed for a PC, not a port or a design compromised hybrid. Xocyll -- I don't particularly want you to FOAD, myself.
