GOG.Com has started their summer sale. Some okay deals - I just grabbed SWAT4 - and you get a free game (Rebel Galaxy) with your first purchase. More interestingly, they added a bunch of new games to their GOG-Connect service, so you can transfer (duplicate) more games from Steam to DRM-free GOG if you want. I still think GOGConnect makes no financial sense for GOG to offer, but it's great for us customers ;-) They were also offering a pre-order for a new game - ELEK - that caught my attention. It's apparently an open-world sci-fi game, but what caught my attention was one of the screenshots; "Wow," I said to myself, "That picture reminds me a lot of a screenshot from Gothic 3". Turns out ELEK is being developed by the same team (Piranha Bytes) so its no wonder there is a certain visual thematic consistency. Since I quite enjoyed the Gothic titles -despite their later misteps with the Risen series - I was very tempted to buy ELEK sight unseen and at full price. Fortunately, the game isn't out yet, else I might have forfeited the money.

I was bit disappointed though that from the screenshots on GOG.com it looks like Gothic with Lasers, rather than the Gothic in Space that I was thinking of when I first heard of the game. Well, Gothic with guns I suppose, based on the gameplay trailers. And jump jets! Although I've never played any Gothic games. Still, something to look forward to.

At least the hope is that if you are playing a game from GOG (and maybe through GOG Galaxy) that you will think of GOG when you next go to purchase a game. If they keep doing it then they must believe it is somewhat effective.
