I picked it up for free on GOG back in 2014. The original "Mount and Blade" is a very rough classic and, honestly, if you want to best experience the game I really recommend you get the "Warband" expansion (sadly not free but worth the $5). It smooths off a lot of the rough corners and makes the game a lot more enjoyable. Or you could just wait for the soon-to-be-released "Mount & Blade 2", which looks to be to "Warband" what "Warband" was to the original. I rather enjoyed the Mount & Blade games. The sandbox was interesting, even if it did all feel very generic and repetive after a while, but the scale and complexity were intriguing. It reminded me a lot of the 1992 classic RPG, "Darklands" in that neither game really had a story but instead the goal of the game was just to make a name for yourself. But the real star of the game was the huge battles and with a modern machine you can edit various config files and have some truly impressive conflicts with hundreds of soldiers. It is similar in scale to a "Total War" game except you are actually down there in the trenches with the soldiers instead of looking on from on-high. Thundering down a hill with 60 other heavily armed knights towards a thicket of spearmen is a lot of fun and gives you an idea as to how absolutely insane those guys in the medieval ages must have been ;-)
