My wife and I played the first two together. We loved them both.

I played them (Syberia 1 and 2) years ago and didn't really enjoy
either. It certainly did not live up to the overwhelming praise that
is heaped on it. While the games had a certain surreal quality that
was interesting, it was saddled with the awful, non-logical puzzles
that were common to the genre at the time, a good-looking but
completely static world, uninteresting characters and a completely
ridiculous premise (even for a genre featuring zombie pirates and a
poorly-dressed sex-offender as a protagonist).

My final impression was of an overrated game that depended more on its
graphics that gameplay; I was extremely disappointed given how highly
rated the game was. I was much happier playing games of the era like
the Broken Sword or Longest Journey series, which had far better
world-building and more interesting gameplay*

Having said that, I still am going to grab it on Origin because - you
know - it's free!

* although to be fair, the puzzles in those games were ridiculous too
(stupid rubber duck puzzle, anyone who has played TLJ knows what I
mean)

Yeah...a bit overboard on the criticism there. Both of these titles
were stunning on first release, and dramatically boosted adventure gaming as
a whole. The art is magnificent, some of the best there is. Surreal or
Magical Realism are good terms to apply t o the art and plotlines, and if
you're not suspending disbelief with a smile on your face when confronted
with talking robots and mammoths, drop it and do something else. I recall
one silly puzzle involving a musical beverage machine or somesuch ha! but
none of them were especially difficult. I recall being especially enchanted
with the animated cutscenes, which the menu allowed to view separately.
Hopefully the new game also has that option.
