Well recent announcments at the CES are interesting regarding gamestreaming. First of all the NVidia Streaming service will be opened for the PC and Mac (also with Steam integration) Secondly my aging NVidia Shield will get another update (and also two new revisions of the Shield are released) which will have Steam inhome streaming integration. So I finally will have a device which will allow me to stream Steam games in 4k. And I also probably will be able to retire my Steam link soon.

Yeah, that's my question: will the new shield completely replace
steamlink functionality, including full controller support etc?

So we will know in roughly 10 days if the steam controller will work. Heck if not there is always the possibility to use a rasperry pi amd VirtualHere to push the controller through to the PC in a second path. Thats what I am doing atm for the WiiMotes and the Dolphin Emulator running in Steam inhome streaming on my TV.

Even better the passthrough still works while the shield is in standby. The difference in power consumption between the running pi and the Shield in standby is neglectable. So I guess it is time to retire my PI now and use the shield for the WiiMote passthrough and later for all my Streaming purposes.

Ok drips of more info are leaked out from NVidia, it is basically a gamestream version which basically starts steam games and the steam big picture mode as it seems, so no AMD support since gamestream is NVidia only. I quote nvidia here: -- Described as “the ultimate entertainment platform,” Steam is hands down one of the most popular services for PC gaming. Boasting a library of thousands of games including blockbuster and indie titles as well as many free-to-play games, chances are if you’re a PC gamer you’re all over Steam. GameStream now supports the Steam Big Picture app from the home screen. Fire up GameStream and you’ll instantly have access to Steam Big Picture mode. -- As for third party controllers. I guess in the worst case you can use virtualhub which runs perfectly fine on android tv and then pick up the controllers input on your host pc. I will give this a shot later tonight (there is an inofficial way to add steam to gamestream even with the current version of the software.
