Earthsiege Tips?

I realize that since MW2 came out, EarthSiege is passe...nevertheless, I just
got the game, and I'm having problems staying alive.

First, I have no idea how to 'sneak up' on an enemy Mech. There's not much
cover, and if I have active radar on, they find me when I see them...if I have
passive on, I only see them when they find me.

Second, how do I maneuver AROUND them...it seems like I can never get my Mech
out of their line of fire before I get cut to shreds...just moving my shields
around isn't helping, since they'll often have a pair of Mechs flanking you.

Can anyone give me any tips, or point me to a FAQ or book that can?

Geo

Sorry, I can't be much help.

I loved EarthSeige, but I just finished MW2 and can't
remember much about the Herc world. I didn't seem to have a
lot of trouble with it though, except for the very last
mission. I have a giveaway which I found by trial and error
if you want it.

I seem to remember configuring my Hercs with mostly the big
chain guns (60mm?) as much as possible, and hoping not to
run out of ammo. I also ran with active radar long enough
to get a general fix on the enemy, then switched it off and
attacked them.

Hope this helps.

Feel free to e-mail me if you want to.

Be sure to get the Patch that allows you to select difficulty in Career Mode!

Turn your radar on briefly to "scout" for enemies then turn it off or they will
home in on you.
I liked to find a nice sheltered spot Turn on Radar and let the Skimmers come at
me untill I killed all of them for that mission otherwise the would blast at me
while I was in trouble and I'd get killed.
For the Skimmers be sure to use auto targeting!
I used autotargeting almost always. I understand that If you have two joysticks
and rudderpedels then you can do the job by yourself but not me.
I have a Gateway computer with a programable keyboard so I redisigned
the keys to work for me.
Get used to using your "wingmen" to your advantage.

Good Luck - Feel free to e-mail me if you need more info. Perhaps I can
find some of the help file i'd seen.

Regards - Arthur - I loved this game.

Word of warning. If you have multiple mechs on a mission
and you have to pass a line of towers with lasers. Make
sure that you tell them to stand-off (make them patrol
a safe area) while you destory the towers one by one.
If you let your wingmen dive in, they just get shot up.

Also there are missions to just make contact with the
enemy, not attack it. Again, you have to tell your
wingmen not to get gun happy, else you all get shot
up.

I know the frustration! Believe me!!!

Here are some things that I learned.

Don't run with your radar on.They really nail you then. It's alot better to use passive radar and load up on anti-radiation missles. Then when they switch on their radar after the first initial shots, you can unload on them.

Stay at long range as much as possible. Work on their legs. It seems to take them out quicker and you get more salvage.(Takes practice though.)

If you have multiple targets, use your auto-tracking. As long as they are in front of you you can switch targets quickly without having to move your turret manually. Run full speed in reverse while doing this.

As to your problem with line of fire. When they begin running around you in a circle and firing, slow your mech down to half speed. You should get your crosshairs on them too if your turret is facing them. They may stop and "dance". Don't get fooled. Just slow down more and keep firing.

Another trick is use quick mechs on scout missions or when you just need to target a mission goal. You may not have squat for armor, but if you run full speed, chances are you'll come out alive since they are slower.

I also saw a hint book. It's not worth paying $20.00 for but if you can sneak a peak at a store, there are some really helpful hints.
