System Shock sequel/clone?

System shock is loved and hated by many... And I don't know if Origin
thinks it was a success or failure on the store shelves....BUT...!

Ffor me, it was the first game of its kindthat I ever bothered to
complete (play all the way to the end). It remains to be one of my all
time favourite games. (Congratulations, Origin)

I am dissapointed by all the 3D junk out there....Except for DOOM, which
has earned a spot of its own in game history! The game Fade To Black
gets some merit, but it's not my type of game unfortunately... I'm looking
for some more science fiction games in the same league as System Shock.

Any game developers programming a futuristic 3D science fiction game
with elements similiar to System Shock?

Anybody at Origin/Bullfrog care to comment on this?

Terra Nova. Vapourware now.

Looks like an outdoor game (hills, water, aircraft), instead of the
dungeon/indoor type game. Wonder whether there'll be a cyberspace type
are.

Yes, but Terra Nova isn't really built upon the SS engine - my understanding is
that it is more of a voxel-based engine, similar to what Commanche was than
SS, which is more sprite-based. Don't get me wrong, I'm *anxiously* awaiting
Terra Nova (even moreso than Quake), but another game built upon the SS engine
(dare I say it ... enhanced?) would be even better. I prefer the
"dungeon-type" exploritory games more than anything else.

I remeber reading someplace, although I can't remember where, that there is
another game being produced by LG on the SS engine. My wet dream would be
Ultima Underwolrd III, but we all know the chances of that ....

OK, I finished System Shock. And I am sad. Since there does not seem to be another
announced squel, I think we sould write the story plot here and submit it to Looking
Glass. And hey, I've always got spare time to program something I want. ( As
opposed to something my boss wants... ) So here we go,

The Hacker starts feeling dizzy staring out his high rise window. As he sits down,
he jacks in to the Net. Suddenly, he starts having flashbacks to CITEL station.
SHODAN is in front of him, all around him. Wait, SHODAN is in his brain.
The last sound the Hacker hears is SHODAN's kackle as she enters the Net...

Time to save the world, again. ( and again, and again. )

Ciao,
Keith.
