Suncom SFX Joypad! And Nettiquete question

Anybody heard of this marvel? Just saw the article at nuke
(http://www.nuke.com) about the suncom SFX. Well, I opened my
nearest computer catalog (which I recieve in the mail about 2 a
day :-) and ordered it right away!
What it is a gamepad like nintendo, genesis, with 6 buttons! It
also has a turbo switch for all 6 buttons... But the best part
is, it's a keyboard emulator! You press a button on the joypad,
then on the keyboard, and that keyboard key is assigned to the
gamepad! Imagine saving, loading, pausing games from a
joystick! Imagine fighting games using all 6 buttons, even if
they weren't designed for it, by using Keyboard emulation mode.
Imagine games that never supported a joystick that now do!
(No this is not a plug for Suncom :-)

All in all, I really like it!

P.S., I have a question that has nothing to do with Suncom: In
the accepted "Nettiquete", when I have a smiley in a
parentheses, can I close the parentheses with a smiley? Like:
(Hi :-)
Or, do I need to close the parentheses with a real parentheses?
Like (Hi :-))

Thanks alot,

Yes, I own one. Got it at CompUSA for $24.99.

It really does do what it says. It's very cool. The ability to
map any keybord key to one of the 8 buttons (yes, 8 -- there
are two along the top edge of the gamepad) or to one of the
four d-pad directions (up, down, left, right) is really great
(so, in all, 12 "buttons").

You're joking, right?

If you're not, then don't be stupid. Forget you ever heard the
word "netiquette." It's for senior citizens and people who use
America Online.

Damn! I just sent off to Titan Games for one at $28+S&H...

It seems like most of the joystick companies focus on the flight sim crowd...
The SFX looks like it would be good for any game (except Abuse where you
have to use the cursor keys and the mouse at the same time).
Can't wait to try reading Usenet with tin and the SFX.

DOn't feel bad. They only cost that much for one day. The next
day they were $29.99! I think someone goofed (it's happened
before at CompUSA).

(description of controller deleted)

Sounds cool! This may very well be my next computer-related purchase.

I've kinda wondered that too, but never felt like asking. I don't think
anyone really cares! :)

Hmm...that's an interesting idea... joy pad to go up down, into an article,
up a level, reply, forward, and a button to mail those annoying #1800-
sex spams from Prodigy back to the postmaster...

Yeah, it's much better than the Gravis Gamepad. It actually has 8 buttons
(6 on the front, and 2 on the top Nintendo style) and no rapid fire
switch, but it does let you program rapid fire buttons for keyboard
emulation. The buttons are a little mushier than the Gravis, but the
added function makes it so much more useful. I can finally play SSF2T
with all 6 buttons!

If you have PS/2 type interface, you might not get the adaptors required
(with the adaptors it sticks out about 7 inches from the back of the
computer) because of some sort of production scheduling problem. There's
a note that says to call them and they'll send it out to you free. I was
pissed about this initially, especially since it is a long distance call
and not a toll free number, but I called on Monday, and I received it Fed
Ex on Tuesday!

Overall, this is a very good controller for PC games and I highly
recommend it.

Yup. I just bought it. All in all, it works great. (it along with myself,
hates Keytronic Keyboard controllers) Programming it is fairly simple.
Although, sometimes it takes a few times to program it to get it to work.

If you power off, it still remembers your programming! Right now, I have it
programmed for Heretic and MK2. The turbo, well... it works when you program
a button to be a turbo button.

The best feature still is, it can perform as a normal 4/2 button joystick too.
But why would you want to? Use the keyboard emulation mode for everything
(all games support keyboard). I was messing with it, and when I programmed
the buttons with Ctrl Alt Shift, I can push the button on the pad, and it will
"Shift" any keypresses!

The Electronics work very well. It is totally transparent to the keyboard
(not a simple task btw) but the physical construction, leaves much to be
desired. Its a tad flimsy.

bah... unscrew it, make a microswitch arcade stick and plug this baby in!
