No WIN95 isnt the OS to end all OS's. In fact im sure already there's
people who've lined up in stores all over the USA and Canada to buy WIN95
and will probably have problem's. They might write to a magazine like PC
Magazine or Pc Computing(where they publish some letter's) and then watch
the journalist's, who were praising WIN95 before it was released, try to
make themselves admit that WIN95 isn't what it's all cracked up to be. In
fact, take a look at these two messages from a man named Bo Bendtsen.

(BTW these two messages were from the Fidonet TERMINATE Conference)

Hi All , how are you

Ok, everybody I am back after attenting at the One BBScon in Tampa,
Florida.
I basically met everybody and of course gave them the newest Terminate,
which
now seems to have spread all over the world. Anyway it was a very
interesting
conference and I can recommend people to come next year in San Francisco.
Everybody talked Internet and Windows 95, only PCBoard won a price for
OS/2.

--------------------------
My thoughts of Windows 95.

I bought the CD the day it was released and tried to install it on my
system.
It installed!!! Did it work ?? Sure for MicroSoft programs. Several times
it crashed the system and in the end it hanged after running a very
advanced
DOS program called LIST.COM.

(NOTE: The LIST.COM Bo talk's about is Vuen Buerg's LIST.COM, that handy
little util for viewing files)

That completely messed up all the registry (INI)
and then it could not start up again. I had to completely delete my old
Windows directory, remove everything, reinstall 5 times before it finally
worked again. My conclusion: it's crap. Basically it is a 3.11 WFW with a
few
nicer colours and menus otherwise it is crap crap crap, I hate it. Now I
cannot even use QEMM probably and have only 400k left even when loading
much of my programs high.
I saw a show on CNN, where they tried first to download with Win95 4.30
min.
OS/2 was also 4.30 min. Then they tried to run a wordprocessor on both
systems. OS/2 was still 4.30 minutes to download, Win95 took 16 minutes or
almost 4 times longer, conclusion multitasking in Win95 sucks. Microsoft
excused it with that they had to be backward-compatible.

My advice and experience:

Do not expect that you are getting a new fast wonderful system.
Expect problems and problems unless you use MicroSoft Win95 programs.
Do not expect that your programs runs faster or better than WFW 3.11
Do not upgrade until there has been at least one major upgrade and bugfix.
Do not expect to be able of running stable systems on Win95 right now.

I am sure now when all the users starts complaining to all the magazines
all these journalists that had praised it before will change their minds.
Sure it looks nicer, but it is simply not more stable than before.

Please do not start a discussion about this in this conference.

--------------------------

We are now collecting all the problem that always will occur in a new
program
and expect to release an small upgrade file shortly. The FIX300.EXE will
fix
the most annoying problem, but we will clean up as much as possible as
usual.

Yours sincerely : Bo Bendtsen

Hi All , how are you

Today I will again bring a warning against installing Windows 95.
Today I realised that when installing Windows 95, it searches through
all your batch files and REM out many lines, but also removes lines it
does not like, such as my diskcache etc. It even found my old SD.EXE
(Speeddisk from Norton) which I like and simply erased it just like that.
I suspect it also searched through my harddisk and deleted other files,
since nothing worked. Fortunately I was lucky enough to have a backup
so I could restore most of the things Windows 95 had destroyed, so now
my system is almost back to normal and I hope to be answering more mail.
I simply cannot believe that MicroSoft would ever deliver such a crap
system that was so slow, unstabil and full of bugs, but then again when
you have enough money to buy all the magazines and all the advertising
in the world you can make people believe they are buying something
incredible good. I sincerely hope that the journalists has integrity
enough left to write the truth about Windows 95 and Microsoft in the
next issues, now they have praised it to the skies.
I was told by another distributor that when you call MicroSoft because
Windows 95 does not work, the standard answer is, your hardware does not
work, contact your supplier and get new drivers and the try to refer
anyone to someone else, which of course is the cheapest solution for
Microsoft.

I am confident that a lot of people have been waiting for Windows 95
before choosing between OS/2 or Windows and this is really time to
consider OS/2 compared to this crap that has made me waste two entire
days now. Of course it will work for someone, but right now it stinks
and will make a lot of people think they are the ones to blame. The
normal attitude I myself got from MicroSoft sucks and basically their
strategy is to try and get someone else to fix their problem, I really
hope that it does not work.

Please do not expect Windows 95 to run stabil unless you are running
exclusively Microsoft 95 programs and then again... I tried that and
it hanged... it does not only hang, it sometimes destroys the setup
files... really anyone that would recommend companies to run vital
communication under Windows 95 ought to see a shrink.

So lets hope that I do not get sued for telling my experiences with
Windows 95. It will really give many person a lot of problems, just alone
the Microsoft minimum recommended 386-4mb tells me everything about
unethical marketing strategy. It might be the normal way in US, but people
in Europe just don't fall for that kind of advertising. I was watching
advertising on my hotel in Europe and talked to some other European guys
about all this and we all agreed that most of these advertisings would
never go in Europe which MicroSoft now presents as well.

This is really computer revolution time and make your mind up time. Please
everyone of you that have bought Windows 95 like me and had problems like
me, do not blame yourself, start writing letters to the magazines
explaining
your problems and make the journalists hear all the trouble that everybody
else will hear.

Yours sincerely : Bo Bendtsen
