Hi ID.
ID. Schofield gets excited whenever you mention Re: Windows 95 & OS/2!

IS> BLASPHEMY! You'll scream. Well, your analogy of OS/2 is dead
IS> wrong. IBM has no plans of dropping support for it, in the near or far
IS> future. OS/2 will continually be upgraded and expanded. If they were
IS> thinking of dropping it why is Warp Server and PowerWARP both in Beta
IS> and a new version of Warp on the drawing board?

Even IBM offers a choice of Warp, Win95 and (something else.. DOS/Win3.1
maybe) on their machines. Why? Cause if they only offered Warp, no-one
would buy it - or at least ask if Win95 could be installed over Warp.
I was tempted to buy a DX4-100 earlier in the year and the fact that it
came with Warp was probably the only bad point.

IS> But... but.... Yeah, but. OS/2 runs better than Windows95.
IS> Anyone who has a rudamentiry understanding of computers and OSs (And
IS> I'm talking if you know what an IRQ is, that's good enough) can see
IS> that Windows95, like Windows before it, is a pretty program loader and
IS> cannot multi-task worth a damn. I know I'm going to catch flames for
IS> that, but it is the truth. Why?
Ok. So you can't get Win95 working properly. Thats tragic, so tragic.
But that fact is that OTHER people (myself included) can get it multi
tasking very well. By that I mean Hyperterminal, Bluewave, Word, Publisher
CD Player and Doom. On a 486-33 with 8 meg.

IS> Microsoft couldn't program itself out of a wet paper bag. That is
IS> the exact reason why MS support has been taking 2,000 calls per hour
 IS> because of Windows95.
Lets see, they sold 1 million in 4 days of release in North America only.
Lets say 1.6 million for the entire world in 4 days.
Thats about 16600 purchases per hour.
So only 12% of people have reported problems.

How long did it take Warp to sell 1 million, assuming it has?

 IS> Another illegal practice
IS> is announcing a new product before development on it is even started.
IS> MS did this many times, the most famous was "A new 32-bit version of
IS> Windows" right after OS/2 2.0 came out in 1991.
What exactly did they announce? What's quoted above? If Microsoft decides
to tell people that they're going to produce a 32-bit version of Windows
is there anything illegal in that?

 IS> so here is
IS> Office95, it works great and is here now, before our competitors can
IS> upgrade their software because we haven't given them time yet!
Microsoft has had heaps of information published on developing Win32
software for Win95. And what other Office software is there that people
 use?

I never said this. Here, lemme show you what I *DID* say.

See, anyone who has a rudamentiry understand of computers... I didn't say
*I* couldn't get it multi-tasking. I could if I wanted to. I don't want to.
Because even the most die-hard Windows people, except those who don't have a
clue on how the OS works, will admit OS/2 multi-tasks better!

> How long did it take Warp to sell 1 million, assuming it has?

Assuming it has? OS/2 installs have topped 6 million, most of those are
one flavor or another of Warp. I doubt if 12% of those people have called in.

It is when that product is not even close to being ready. It is called
announcing it early for the sole purpose of having people wait to see what
will come in the 'new' version instead of switching to another product. There
are recorded instances of Microsoft doing this with some of its suite of
applications as well. The DoJ slapped them for that as well.
