The console systems have always offered an alternative to the "PC"
market. They're simple to use (Plug and Play), don't have too many bugs
because Nintendo/Sega run them through to make sure they met they're
"Quality Control" standards (Not too many bugs to deal with),
standardized equipment (No need to worry about hardware conflicts as
much), and an "easier" way to play games. Don't get me wrong, I love my
PCs at home, but I also own a Sega Genesis, Super Nintendo, Turbo Grafx
16, lots of other console gaming crap, and most recently the Playstation.
I agree, the lack of network or modem gaming is a big negative, but that
may change in the future. Although lugging 2 tv's into my living room
doesn't sound all that attractive, the release of the serial cable for
the PSX will allow multi-player gaming, and there is talk of a modem for
the Playstation, ala X-Band.

Personally, I don't think that consoles will take the place of the PC as
a gaming platform anytime soon, but there are many nitch games which I
enjoy on my Playstation which won't be as good on my PC. Most notably,
Toh Shin Den, is one of my favorite games. That was one of the reasons I
purchased the Play Station, and I've been enjoying it ever since. Also,
for $300 the video clips on it just blow me away! It's like watching a
laser disc at times!

Well, think about it, your PC unless it's at lease a P100 will in all
likely hood be close to being bottom of the pile. It may not even be an
"entry-level" machine anymore. For about $300, which is much less than
what I spend on my machines hardware aspect, I have a console which, in
all likelihood be a very good machine. Reason I say that, is that once
the CONSOLE developers learn the potential of the Sony Playstation, the
games will be much better than the first, second, and third generation of
games that come out on the PSX now. BTW, I seriously doubt I'd cry over
$300 dollars, especially when I spend over $1000 a year, upgrading my
machine and keeping it up to my personal standards.

>One more point, are you reading this message on a saturn! I don't think
>so!!

I'm not right now, but honestly, if a modem is released for the PSX, I
may be! Honestly though, I can't imagine composing a message on the damn
thing without a keyboard. The hunt and peck method with a control pad on
the SNES with an X-Band just didn't cut it for me. BTW, it's already
possible to send email messages over the net with a SNES or Genesis
equipped with an X-Band.

>These are just my views, If you have a spare $600 dollors or what ever
>they cost over seas! By one. Or even both!

Right now, both machines (Sega Saturn & Sony Playstion), retail $300 for
a core system, which means it doesn't come with any major pack-in software.
