Well, it WOULD make it easier to administer a machine with multiple users on it if each one had their own folder for saves. It would also make it easier to migrate over to a new machine. But other than that, I don't see this affecting gameplay at all. > "auto-updates" > oh yes, i bet microsoft is thinking about a steam like thing for windows > but we will not use it! NO TO STEAM LIKE TECHNOLOGIES! they are intrusive > and against consumer rights! and putting steam and microsoft together > would have the destructive damaging force of a megaton bomb for pc games Would you give it a rest about steam already? Geeze. There are already update services - THAT DON'T USE STEAM OR STEAM-LIKE TECHNOLOGY - that are available for the PC. You "register" what applications you want the service to monitor for you, and it goes out and checks the its internal database for what the latest version is. If you need an update, some will even provide it to you, or will just alert you to go to the regular website and download it the old fashioned way. For those who feel they *must* run the latest and greatest version as soon as it's released, this is for them. For the rest of us...I don't see it as that big of an issue really. Unless I'm convinced the newer version will provide me with some benefits (be them added features, or bug fixes) I don't normally grab updates or upgrades. > "new version of DirectX" > should we thank microsoft for updating directx? or should we instead have > version 9 forever? its obvious microsoft has to continue supporting and > updating directx! if microsoft said we will not longer update directx and > you must buy an xbox to play games, they would be in terrible trouble > with everyone from the pc and game industry against them and i bet all > would boycott microsoft, it would be their end Agreed. I fail to see how a new version of DirectX is worth mentioning, unless you're interested in game development for the PC. Otherwise...who cares? I don't install newer versions of DirectX unless a game explicitly requests one. Even then, I usually go with the version provided, as it's guaranteed to work, as opposed to the latest & greatest version from Microsoft. > "XNA" > microsoft wants pcs to be used in game development but wants xbox to be > used for playing! we all know microsoft supporting windows but what i > was talking about is microsoft downgrading pc as a PLAYING platform not > a developers platform! XNA is just XBox-ese for "DirectX". Don't ask me why they felt they needed to rename the technology, but don't be confused by it. Furthermore, PCs are *NOT* and *CANNOT* be used to develop games for the next generation of Xbox because Xbox360 is based on a PowerPC chip from Motorolla, not a Pentium chip from Intel. Truth be told, early Xbox360 developers have been using Macintohes to develop their games because Xbox360 will have more in common with a Mac than a Intel PC. > bottom line, microsoft is promoting xbox as a gaming platform and the pc > as a developers platform, but what we want is pcs for everything! > we don't want to be forced in buying EXTRA SUPERFLUOUS CRAPPY microsoft > made hardware to play games! While it is to Microsoft's benefit for you to buy XBox games, this by no means that Microsoft is killing off PC gaming from their Windows productline - your posted points above should be evidence enough of that. Microsoft knows full well that the key to holding onto their monsterous market share is by providing a platform for gam It's clear you haven't even tried out an Xbox, so you really can't make comments about the quality of the HW. > we want to keep playing games in QUALITY hardware made by all the great > companies that work for the pc architecture > microsoft only for the operating system cause when it comes to gaming > hardware they suck > we don't want more monopoly from microsoft! > they have already monopoly in operating system we don't want them to have > monopoly in gaming hardware! > never accept playing games in any type of consoles! > games are to be played in a pc! > long live pc games! > -- > post made in a steam-free computer > i said "NO" to valve and steam > against steam campaign > http://nosteam.afterdarknet.at/ > steamwatch - independent observatory about steam > http://www.steamwatch.org/ > please sign petition "Say NO! to Steam!" available at: > http://www.petitiononline.com/nosteam/petition.html
