X-Wing Crashes...HELP!

I just bought X-Wing Collectors Edition and I'm having problems. My
system hangs after ending missions, often leaving a single tone blaring
from my speakers. In some cases, items are missing from my mission
briefings (leaving such things as floating heads to give me my lecture).
The game will play, but I often have to reboot after I either eject or
jump to hyperspace (ending the game, of course). If I do get back to
space dock, the system hangs if I try to re-enter the mission. Finally,
loading a mission takes between 5 and 7 minutes...way too long for my
system (which I will now describe):

Zeos Pantera P5-66
16 MB RAM
720 MB, 120 MB Hard Drives (Western Digital)
Diamond SpeedStar 64 w/2 MB DRAM (driver v2.03)
DOS 6.20
Mitsumi 2x CD-ROM

P.S. - I've created a boot disk and am using that to start my system. I
also use a QuickShot joystick through my SoundBlaster Pro's joystick/MIDI
port, though neither has given me trouble.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated. I looked for patches on the
LucasArts WWW page and, while there were patches for Tie Fighter and Dark
Forces, there was nothing for me. Again, any help is appreciated...
