Spalls Hurgenson <spallsh...@gmail.com> looked up from reading the entrails of the porn spammer to utter "The Augury is good, the signs say: >* X-COM Enforcer (replay) >Few people remember that the unfortunate X-Com spin-off, The Bureau, >wasn't the franchise's first FPS; that honor belonged to Enforcer. >Released in 2001, Enforcer was an even more ungainly fit to the >franchise, being little more than an action-shooter that owed almost >no similarity to the earlier titles of the series. But ignoring its >unfortunate connections with the franchise, the game could be >surprisingly fun. I remember wasting quite a few hours on this game back in the day. X-Com in name only really, but not horrible - not like the X-Com interceptor game that came out around the same time. >And that's me, for February. Now that I look back at it, that's a >pretty good impressive number of games played to completion for just >four weeks. Imagine what I can do in a month that has 31 days ;-) > >So what about you? What Have You Been Playing... IN FEBRUARY 2016? Fallout4 with numerous restarts. Started a snipery type character, then when I found the X-01 power armor I actually liked how it looked but had a char pretty much utterly unsuited to it, so I restarted. Got up to early 40's and had a lockup - endless loading screen deal happening which I attributed to having installed and removed many, many mods which can leave a certain amount of cruft behind. So another restart with the intention of not changing the installed mods at all during play. I only just went and rescued Garvey, having already tromped all over the place. I really don't get Bethesda's design decisions. 1. The story - the kidnapping etc and instead of getting out there looking for your kid you're now the great hope, the rebuilder, the only person capable of finding food or water of building anything and you spend all your time in this Sid Meier subgame, instead of, you know, looking for your kidnapped child. 2. The environment and building subgame; All of the building pieces, walls, roofs, pre made structures are FULL OF HOLES. Now while this would have been OK in a desert hovel, FO4 is set in Boston, which gets cold and gets lots of snow - buildings like this = dead people. I get the feeling they forgot they weren't setting it in sunny California and no one called them on it. 3. Loot tables that are both randomized and level linked but have no exceptions or rationality applied to them. What's this, you've discovered a locked bunker no one has been in since before the war, and in it found a locked safe, which you managed to open only to find a pipe rifle and mole rat jerky, neither of which would have existed before the war. And the sheer number of cigarettes everywhere where there should be none; Not an anti-smoking screed but as an ex-smoker I know that smoking deadens appetite and lowers stress (at least it feels that way,) so the people locked in the bunker who are starving to death would have smoked every last damn one of them. Similarly they would have drunk all the booze. And what's with beer that's been sitting outside for decades if not centuries still being drinkable? Leave a beer out in the sun and it's going to be undrinkable in days. Books - why is every damn book and textbook in the game burned, while magazines and papers are fine and readable centuries later. Sure those books and magazines in an outdoor news kiosk would be destroyed (actually long since rotted away to nothing) but books in a sealed bunker sitting mere feet away from notes and file folders and such that are in mint condition? All I can think is "Dumbed down for the console players" like the control scheme was. Even then, with the whole push this button to do X, push and hold it to do Y, WHY THE FUCK would they choose to make it press not press and hold to sit in a fucking seat with the lengthy fucking animation every god damned time? Best thing about wearing power armor - you can't sit in those chairs so that idiocy gets avoided. You know except for those terminals you can't access in power armor because they put an office chair in front of it that you apparently can't move, despite it being flimsy steel and plastic. Xocyll -- I don't particularly want you to FOAD, myself. You'll be more of a cautionary example if you'll FO And Get Chronically, Incurably, Painfully, Progressively, Expensively, Debilitatingly Ill.
