Been playing in offline mode for several days, although I shut off steam when I finish playing. Oddly enough, despite supposedly being offline steam keeps updating itself every time it's activated. Today, just a few minutes ago I firewall blocked it and then ... remember it's been set to offline for about a week now ... "Could not connect to steam network. This could be due to a problem with your internet connection, or with the steam network. Please visit www.steampowered.com for more info." and of course steam exiting and refusing to start despite having been in "offline mode" for a week. I guess steams "offline mode" is like Fox News "Fair and Balanced" coverage, a trademarked name/title, not an actual statement of reality. One wonders exactly how someone traveling and playing via laptop where there is no coverage is supposed to play using an "offline mode" that insists on connecting to the steam network and exiting with an error if it cannot?
