So it was quite possible for an important event to happen in location X while the player was futzing about in location Y. The developers tried to ensure that this wouldn't lock you out of completing the game but it rarely worked well and - if you're not careful (or playing with a walkthrough) - you can accidentally miss out on important dialogs or items. That - and the fact that the game randomizes which NPCs are Replicants (and whether or not the PC himself is a replicant) - add some interesting replayability to the game. But on the whole I think that the developers' goals were more extravagant than their ability. That said, the game ably re-captured the look and feel of the original movies (although sometimes it aped the films a bit too closely). Their choice to use voxel-based graphics was unusual; it made for a very pixelated game (even given the standards of games of 1997) and didn't really add anything to the experience that a more traditional sprite- or polygon-based engine would have provided.
