Whenever I give a product a glowing review, I always feel compelled to
point out it's flaws whenever I find them, and I did find one.

Currently no joystick support for flying (it can be done but involves
hacky tools). They have acknowledged/apologized for not shipping with
it and said it is a priority fix, so that's good.

Usually in BF games I play for a while on the ground before I mess
with air vehicles. In BF4 I don't think I even used my joystick much,
because I didn't spend much time in jets and found choppers flyable
well enough with the mouse and keyboard.

My expectation for BF1 was a little different though, once I saw it
was a WWI game with biplanes. I have both been a gunner in another's
plane and flown a few. I think gunning is always fun, flying is quite
workable with a gamepad if you spend enough time to get used to it,
but quickly makes you long for a proper joystick. I can't fly those
things with a mouse and keyboard, maybe I haven't tried hard enough
but I don't think I'm that interested.

So while I was a little irked to realize I couldn't just plug in my
old Logitech stick (same one I had when BF1942 was released, BTW, and
still like new!) and go, I was relieved to learn the situation is
temporary and a fix on the way. I'm having enough fun on the ground
to keep me busy.

I predict those gamepad flyers in the air right now are going to get
slaughtered when guys with joysticks get up there with them.

The good news is that the physics of the plane are great, although
certainly arcadish by any simulator lover's standards, they feel good
and are appropriate to the rest of the games fun factor. You really
have to pay a lot of attention to throttle to fly well.
